It is understood that breast pain is more likely to occur during the following six special periods, and women generally do not need to worry. However, if the pain and swelling do not subside for a long time, the condition becomes more and more serious, or if you feel a lump in the breast that is uneven, has unclear edges, and has poor mobility, you should go to the hospital for specialist examination and treatment as soon as possible.

1. Puberty

It usually occurs between the ages of 9 and 13, and the swelling and pain will disappear on their own after menarche. Related to hormone levels.

2. Premenstrual period

Many women experience breast fullness, hardness, and tenderness before menstruation. In severe cases, the breasts will swell and hurt with the slightest vibration or collision. This is caused by increased estrogen levels in the body before menstruation, breast hyperplasia, and edema of breast tissue. The above changes may disappear after menstruation.

3. After sex

This is related to the physiological changes in the breasts during sexual intercourse. People with low libido or disharmonious sex life cannot achieve sexual satisfaction, so breast congestion and swelling are not easy to subside, or they subside incompletely. Continuous congestion will cause breast pain.

4. After abortion

When pregnancy is suddenly interrupted, the hormone level in the body drops suddenly, causing the newly developed breasts to suddenly stop growing, resulting in breast lumps and breast pain.

5. Pregnancy

Some women experience breast pain around day 40 of pregnancy due to the placenta and villi secreting large amounts of estrogen, progesterone and prolactin, which causes the mammary glands to enlarge and the pain can last throughout the pregnancy. This does not require treatment.

6. Postpartum period

Breast fullness, hardness and pain often occur 3-7 days after delivery. This is mainly due to mammary lymph stagnation, venous congestion, interstitial edema and obstructed mammary ducts.

Experts say that breast pain is divided into three degrees: first degree is pain felt when touched with the hand and no treatment is required; second degree is pain felt during activity and you can consider taking medicine; third degree is pain at rest, that is, pain is felt even when lying in bed and you should see a doctor.

In addition to breast pain, the hardness of the breasts can also be graded. One degree is as soft as the lips, two degrees is moderately soft and hard like the nose, and three degrees is as hard as the forehead. But whether it is soft or hard, it does not indicate any disease.

Many women feel a lump in their breasts while experiencing pain. If the tumor is symmetrical on both sides, then it can be considered as ordinary hyperplasia; if the tumor changes before and after menstruation, then there is no need to worry about cancer.

Experts remind: All women over 35 years old should undergo regular breast screening, because the age of onset of breast cancer in Chinese women is generally earlier than that in European and American women, and the peak incidence is concentrated in the 40s and 50s; if women under 35 years old have breast pain that is severe enough to affect their daily life, and they feel a lump, they should also seek medical attention.

Clinically, it has been found that if cyclical breast pain is related to menstruation, the treatment effect is often more obvious. The more irregular the pain, the more difficult it is to treat because it may not be affected by hormone levels.
