Can I eat almonds during my period?

Can I eat almonds during my period?

When I was a child, when apricots were ripe, my mother would buy a lot of apricots for us to eat. When we went out to play, we would also bring some to our friends. One time, I brought some apricots to my friend. After she finished eating, she left the apricot kernels. I asked her why she left them. She said that the almonds inside could be eaten, so she found a brick to chisel it open, and we ate the almonds inside. So, can you eat almonds during menstruation?

Once when we went to Chengde for a trip, we just finished our meal and went for a walk outside the restaurant. At this time, we saw a lot of things being sold. I saw that there were also almonds. I ate one. This almond was much more delicious than the one we ate when we were young. So can we eat almonds during menstruation? Let us learn about it together!

Indications

1. Antitussive and antiasthmatic effects

Used for cough and asthma. This product mainly enters the lung meridian. It tastes bitter and can descend, and also has the property of clearing, promoting circulation, and while descending lung qi, it also has the function of promoting lung function and relieving cough and asthma, so it is an important medicine for treating cough and asthma. It can be used for various cough and asthma diseases according to the symptoms. For example, if there is cough and asthma caused by wind-cold, use ephedra and licorice to dispel wind-cold, promote lung function and relieve asthma, which is called Sanao Decoction. For wind-heat cough, use mulberry leaves and chrysanthemum to disperse wind-heat, promote lung function and relieve cough, such as Sangju Drink. For dry heat cough, use mulberry leaves, Fritillaria thunbergii, and Adenophora radix to clear the lungs, moisten dryness and relieve cough, such as Sangxing Decoction. For cough and asthma due to lung heat, use gypsum and other medicines to clear the lungs, relieve heat, promote lung function and relieve asthma, such as Ma Xing Shi Gan Decoction.

2. Effects on the digestive system

Almonds taste bitter and flatulent, and are rich in fatty oil. Fatty oil can enhance the lubrication effect of intestinal contents on the mucosa, so almonds have the function of moistening the intestines and promoting bowel movements.

3. Anti-inflammatory and analgesic effects

The benzaldehyde produced by the decomposition of amygdalin is reacted with benzoin condensing enzyme to produce benzoin. Benzoin has analgesic effects, so some people in China use bitter almonds to treat advanced liver cancer to relieve patients' pain, and some even do not need to take painkillers.

4. Anti-tumor effect

The research on the anti-tumor mechanism of almonds mainly includes the following aspects:

① Some scholars believe that cancer cells contain a large amount of β-glucosidase, which can hydrolyze amygdalin to produce hydrocyanic acid (HCN), benzaldehyde and glucose. Cancer cells lack thionitrile generating enzyme, which has a detoxifying effect on HCN, converting HCN into non-toxic thionitrile compounds, while normal cells lack β-glucosidase but contain a large amount of thionitrile generating enzyme. According to this theory, amygdalin should be able to selectively kill cancer cells while leaving normal cells mostly harmless.

② Amygdalin can help trypsin in the body digest the transparent mucin membrane of cancer cells, making it easier for white blood cells in the body to approach cancer cells and phagocytize them.

③Some people have found that amygdalin, similar to NaSCN and NaOCN, can affect the entry of thymidine into the DNA of liver tumor cells and the absorption of phosphate and amino acids by tumor cells.

5. Hypoglycemic effect

Amygdalin has the effect of preventing and treating diabetes caused by the anti-tumor drug alloxan. The alloxan-induced hyperglycemia method in mice was used to demonstrate that blood sugar was measured 48 hours after intraperitoneal injection of 3g/kg amygdalin. The results showed that amygdalin could specifically inhibit the increase in blood sugar caused by alloxan, and the intensity of the effect was related to the concentration of amygdalin in the blood.

6. Effect of lowering blood lipids

Clinical reports show that almonds can significantly lower blood lipid levels in patients with hyperlipidemia. Spiller (1990) believes that the monounsaturated fatty acids in almonds can help lower patients' mildly elevated blood lipids without the need for strict dietary restrictions.

7. Beauty effect

According to the theory that the lungs are connected to the skin, certain skin diseases can be treated clinically by promoting the flow of qi into the lungs, and edible almonds can often produce quick results. Modern research has shown that the fatty oil contained in bitter almonds can soften the skin's stratum corneum, thereby achieving a beauty effect.

8. Used for dry intestines and constipation

This product contains oil and has a moist texture, a bitter taste and can relieve gas, so it can moisten the intestines and promote bowel movements. It is often used together with pine nuts and Prunus mume seeds, such as the Wu Ren Pills in Shiyi Dexiao Fang.

9. Other functions

Amygdalin has an anti-mutagenic effect and can reduce the number of micronucleated polychromatic erythrocytes caused by acetaminophen, metronidazole, mitomycin C, etc. Benzaldehyde, the hydrolysis product of amygdalin, can inhibit the digestive function of pepsin in vitro and in vivo in healthy people or those with ulcers, suggesting that it has anti-ulcer effects. Administration of the pepsin hydrolyzate of the water-soluble part of almonds to rats treated with carbon tetrachloride inhibited the increase in SGOT, SGPT levels and hydroxyproline content, and inhibited the extension of euglobulin dissolution time.

The pepsin hydrolysate of almonds has an inhibitory effect on acetic acid-induced writhing in mice and cotton ball-induced granulomatous inflammation in rats, but does not inhibit carrageenan-induced acute swelling of rat paws and the development of primary and secondary lesions in adjuvant-induced arthritis in rats. In mice with adjuvant-induced arthritis, administration of almond pepsin hydrolysate for 2 months prolongs the euglobulin dissolution time and inhibits the proliferation of abdominal artery connective tissue.

Bitter almond oil also has anthelmintic and bactericidal effects. In vitro tests show that it can kill human roundworms and earthworms, and has antibacterial effects on typhoid and paratyphoid Salmonella. Almonds also have the effects of preventing pinworm and trichomoniasis infections and treating aplastic anemia.

Through the above understanding, we know that almonds are very helpful to human health and have beauty effects. So can we eat almonds during menstruation? I hope people can understand it correctly so that such delicious and nutritious things can serve us better!
