What causes frequent urination and urgency?

What causes frequent urination? In fact, in real life, many people have frequent urination/inability to urinate completely. Relevant experts point out that clarifying the cause of frequent urination can help to clarify the diagnosis of the disease. For most patients with urinary tract infections, urinary urgency is often accompanied by symptoms such as frequent urination and painful urination, and sometimes they may even appear at the same time. They are mostly caused by lower urinary tract lesions.

Increased urine volume: When urine volume increases, the frequency of urination will also increase accordingly. Under physiological conditions, such as drinking a lot of water, eating watermelon, drinking beer, etc., due to the increase in water intake, the urine volume will increase through the regulation and filtration of the kidneys, and the frequency of urination will also increase, resulting in frequent urination; under pathological conditions, such as some patients with diabetes and diabetes insipidus who drink a lot of water, have a lot of urine, and urinate more frequently. But there was no discomfort in urination.

Inflammatory stimulation: When there are inflammatory symptoms in the prostate, the nerve perception threshold is lowered, the gate that controls urination fails, resulting in frequent urination and reduced urine volume (<300-500 ml/time in adults). Therefore, frequent urination is an important symptom of prostatitis, especially in chronic prostatitis. Other conditions such as cystitis, urethritis, pyelonephritis, chronic balanoposthitis in children, vulvitis, etc. can also cause frequent urination. Under the stimulation of inflammatory symptoms, frequent urination, urgency and pain often occur at the same time, which is called urinary tract irritation sign, commonly known as "triuria sign".

Non-inflammatory stimuli: such as prostate atrophy and foreign bodies, can also cause symptoms of frequent urination.

Genital infection: Genital infection causes lesions in the organs of the reproductive and urinary system and impairs their functions. Male reproductive infections include urethritis, mycoplasma infection, chlamydia infection and some transmitted diseases. The symptoms of reproductive infection diseases mainly include common symptoms such as frequent urination, painful urination, and difficulty urinating to varying degrees.

Psychoneural urinary frequency: Frequent urination only occurs during the day or before falling asleep at night, and is often caused by mental stress or occurs in patients with hysteria. This may also be accompanied by urinary urgency and pain.

Urethral and seasonal factors: If you have frequent urination but small amount of urine each time, no painful expression when urinating, and no other symptoms, you should first consider local factors, such as inflammation of the urethral orifice, excessive foreskin, or pinworm irritation to the genitals. In addition, due to seasonal factors, polyuria in winter is a normal phenomenon.

Dietary polyuria: If you have frequent urination and a large amount of urine each time, but no other symptoms, you should first pay attention to whether you drink too much water, especially those who like to drink tea.

Neurogenic urinary frequency: The bladder detrusor muscle is underdeveloped and the nerves are not sound, which may lead to daytime spot polyuria, up to 20 to 30 times, but normal urination at night. There is a tendency of recurring attacks, and urine tests are normal. This disease is not caused by inflammation.

Urinary tract inflammation: If you have frequent urination, painful urination, or fever, you should consider a urinary tract infection, such as cystitis, pyelonephritis, etc. In addition, diseases such as prostatitis and prostatic hyperplasia are also the main causes of frequent urination.

END Notes

If frequent urination is accompanied by a large amount of urine, and at the same time there is thirst, polydipsia, polyuria, and weight loss, you should pay attention to check your urine. If the urine contains sugar, you should consider diabetes. If there is no sugar in the urine but the specific gravity is low, you should think of diabetes insipidus.

Frequent urination should be treated according to the cause. If it is caused by inflammation, anti-infection should be the main treatment. If it is caused by pinworms, deworming should be given. If the foreskin is too long, surgery can be performed, and if the patient simply drinks too much water, the amount of water intake can be controlled appropriately.

In addition, pay attention to local cleanliness and hygiene, and take a bath and change clothes frequently.
