Seven abnormal menstrual manifestations indicate the onset of disease

Menstruation is the most important physiological cycle for women. Some women think it is troublesome. In fact, regular menstruation is a sign of health. If it is abnormal, it is really "troublesome". "A woman's normal menstrual cycle is 24-35 days." The correct way to calculate is that one cycle is from the first day of the last menstruation to the first day of the current menstruation. A normal menstrual period (i.e. bleeding period) lasts 2-7 days, and the amount of menstrual blood each time is 20-60 ml. In addition to blood, menstrual blood also contains endometrial fragments, cervical mucus and vaginal epithelial cells. Symptoms below menstruation often indicate the occurrence of disease.

1. Excessive menstrual flow

What is most common in young women is dysfunctional uterine bleeding, referred to as "dysfunctional uterine bleeding", which is menstrual disorder without organic lesions. Zhang Lufang explained that there are two types of functional uterine bleeding. One is the incomplete development of the gonad axis in adolescent girls, which leads to functional uterine bleeding without ovulation or periodic ovulation. Clinically, symptoms include irregular blood loss or excessive menstrual flow. In severe cases, it causes anemia or even hemorrhagic shock. The other is functional ovulatory bleeding. Zhang Lufang explained that there is a menstrual cycle when ovulation occurs, and a large amount of menstrual blood, more than 80 ml each time, is often caused by excessive activity of endometrial plasmin or disordered secretion of prostaglandin vasomotor factor. Endometriosis and adenomyosis can also cause heavy menstrual bleeding with severe cramps. Certain blood diseases affect blood coagulation and can also lead to menstrual disorders and heavy menstrual flow, such as thrombocytopenia, aplastic anemia, leukemia, etc.

2. Excessive menstrual flow or amenorrhea

The most common cause at present is polycystic ovary syndrome, which, in addition to amenorrhea and infertility, is also accompanied by obesity, hirsutism, acne, etc. Some patients also have diabetes. Zhang Lufang said that malignant tumors of the reproductive system, such as cervical cancer, endometrial cancer and ovarian cancer, can also manifest as menstrual disorders, so special vigilance is required. In recent years, malignant tumors have tended to occur in younger people. If you have menstrual abnormalities, you must undergo a gynecological examination and cancer screening. In addition, medications (such as emergency contraceptives and diet pills) may cause amenorrhea. Zhang Lufang said that some women lack contraceptive measures and rely solely on oral emergency contraceptive pills to remedy the situation, which leads to amenorrhea in many cases. In addition to medication, excessive dieting to lose weight can inhibit hypothalamic function and lead to neurogenic amenorrhea. Menstruation is also controlled by the cerebral cortex. Changes in living environment or drastic mood swings may also lead to menstrual disorders.

3. The cycle is too short

Abnormal corpus luteum function can cause a short menstrual cycle, often less than 20 days, long menstrual period, and spotting.

4. The cycle is too long

If you have irregular menstruation, you should also pay attention to pregnancy-related diseases. Ectopic pregnancy, also known as ectopic pregnancy, often causes amenorrhea or prolonged menstrual cycle in patients, but some patients may not have an obvious history of amenorrhea, and only show symptoms of irregular menstruation or vaginal bleeding, which are often mistaken for menstrual disorders, resulting in delayed diagnosis.

5. Irregular menstrual cycle

Irregular, light bleeding between periods may be caused by insufficient estrogen levels. In addition, "irregular menstruation" may also be a sign of certain diseases. "For example, benign and malignant diseases of the female reproductive system, such as inflammation of the vagina, cervix, uterus and other parts; uterine fibroids, especially submucosal fibroids, can cause irregular bleeding and heavy menstrual bleeding, which are easily overlooked by young patients who do not have sex; endometrial hyperplasia, polyps, and inflammation can all lead to irregular menstruation. In addition, diseases of other organs outside the reproductive system, such as endocrine diseases such as thyroid dysfunction (hyperthyroidism, hypothyroidism) and adrenal dysfunction, can also affect ovulation and lead to abnormal menstruation.

6. Abnormal menstrual blood color

"If menstrual blood is too bright red, it is a sign of blood heat." Professor Yang Li from the Xiyuan Hospital of the China Academy of Chinese Medical Sciences said that such people often have excessive menstrual flow, so they should pay attention to clearing heat in their daily lives. They can drink tea soaked in water with chrysanthemums, bamboo leaves, etc. People whose menstrual blood is too dark in color have caught a cold and the cold air accumulates in the body. Therefore, women should keep their abdomen warm in all seasons and avoid drinking cold drinks or drinking cold water during menstruation.

7. Blood clots or odor

Yang Li explained that blood clots in menstrual blood are a sign of blood stasis, which is often accompanied by dysmenorrhea. The most effective way is to use a hot water bag to apply heat to the abdomen during menstruation, or you can drink some Siwu Decoction. Unpleasant odor in menstrual blood is a sign of inflammation, which is usually manifested as excessive vaginal discharge with an unpleasant odor. You can use diluted potassium permanganate to clean the vulva, and pay attention to cleanliness during menstruation and on ordinary days.
