Before ovulation, cervical mucus is affected by estrogen and gradually increases; after ovulation, it is affected by estrogen and gradually decreases. As ovulation approaches, not only does the amount of mucus increase, but it also becomes thinner, transparent, and elastic, like water or egg white, which facilitates the passage of sperm and increases the survival time of sperm.
