Seven months of pregnancy fetal malposition

Seven months of pregnancy fetal malposition

About 3% of pregnant women may experience transverse fetal position in the seventh month of pregnancy, which will undoubtedly cause some anxiety to pregnant women. In today's article, I will tell you what is the transverse position of the fetus and what causes it. In addition, what should you do if the fetus is in the transverse position in the 7th month of pregnancy?

1. What is transverse position of the fetus?

Fetal position, in layman's terms, refers to the position of the fetus in the uterus. The normal fetal position should be that the fetal head is flexed, with the occipital bone in front. During delivery, the head is first extended into the pelvis, which is medically called "head first presentation". This fetal position is generally smooth during delivery.

As for other parts of the body such as buttocks, feet, legs and even arms facing downwards, this situation belongs to the transverse position of the fetus. Among abnormal fetal positions, breech presentation, with the buttocks facing downwards, accounts for the largest proportion. Although some fetuses are head-down, the fetal head position changes from flexion to extension or the occiput is at the back, which theoretically also belongs to the transverse position of the fetus. This abnormal fetal position is equivalent to setting up an obstacle in the pregnant woman's delivery channel, which can easily lead to dystocia.

2. Causes of transverse fetal position

The cause of transverse fetal position is mainly related to the following factors: fetal gestational age and size, pelvic size and shape, embryo size and implantation site in the uterus, loose abdominal muscles of primiparas with multiple pregnancies, twin pregnancy, abnormal amniotic fluid of pregnant women, short umbilical cord of the fetus, whether there is an intrauterine tumor or congenital uterine development abnormality, etc.

1. Excessive amniotic fluid, loose abdominal cavity of primipara, etc., make the fetus's range of movement in the uterine cavity too large.

2. Uterine malformation, malformed fetus, multiple births, too little amniotic fluid, etc. make the fetus's range of movement in the uterine cavity too small.

3. Narrow pelvis, placenta previa, giant fetus, etc. make fetal reception difficult.

The transverse position of the fetus can be adjusted in advance with the help of a doctor. If it cannot be adjusted, a cesarean section should be chosen as much as possible. Primiparas with breech presentation can choose natural delivery as appropriate.

3. What to do if the fetus is in transverse position in the 7th month of pregnancy

What should I do if the fetus is in transverse position in the 7th month of pregnancy? Before the eighth month of pregnancy, transverse position of the fetus is a common situation and pregnant mothers do not need to worry too much. As the number of weeks of pregnancy increases, most of the fetuses in the transverse position will automatically turn into a normal birth position with the head down. In terms of obstetric treatment, the diagnosis is usually made when the fetus is still in a transverse position at 9 months or 36 weeks of pregnancy.

Generally, if the fetus is in a transverse position before the seventh month of pregnancy, it only needs to be observed carefully. In addition, the fetal position can be corrected through the knee-chest position exercise: the pregnant woman expels the bladder, loosens the belt, lies on a hard bed, pushes up with the knees resting on the bed, buttocks raised, thighs vertical to the bed, and the chest as close to the bed as possible. Do it once a day in the morning, noon and evening, each time for 15 minutes, and continue for 1 week. Then go to the hospital for a follow-up visit.

What should I do if the fetus is in transverse position in the 7th month of pregnancy? As we know above, the transverse position of the fetus in the 7th month of pregnancy is normal, and the fetal position can be corrected. Pregnant mothers do not need to worry too much about this. They can correct the fetal position in time under the guidance of a doctor.
