If a small amount of foreign matter such as black blood and black residue appears shortly after the menstrual period ends, and there is no discomfort such as backache and lower abdominal pain, it can be understood as a normal condition and no intervention is required. If the time after menstruation is relatively long, or if black blood or black residue appears more than a week after the menstrual period, and is accompanied by discomfort, it may be abnormal uterine bleeding due to imbalanced function.

Bleeding clots are because in addition to normal blood, there are also some uterine wall fragments, cervical mucus and vaginal squamous epithelial cells in the menstruation, and these parts are solid.

Secondly, if the menstrual blood is blocked in the same area and is not discharged in time, blood clots will form immediately after 5 to 10 minutes of accumulation. Blood clots usually occur in the morning just after waking up or after sitting for a long time.

If there are too many blood clots and the color is black, you need to consider other reasons:

Gynecological inflammation: Gynecological inflammation may cause gray-black blood clots during menstruation. Gray-black blood clots during menstruation may also be caused by bloody leucorrhea. Careful observation of vaginal secretions can help determine whether there is gynecological inflammation. If there is blood in the vaginal discharge, it is a symptom of gynecological inflammation. Bloody leucorrhea is common in gynecological inflammations such as moderate to severe cervical erosion, cervical polyps, endometrial cancer, uterine cervical fibroids, etc. If these gynecological infections are not treated in time, they may lead to ectopic pregnancy.

Ectopic pregnancy: Ectopic pregnancy can cause dark menstruation. Ectopic pregnancy can cause bilateral fallopian tube rupture and fetal sac rupture, which can easily lead to internal bleeding, shock, and even death. Ectopic pregnancy refers to the combination of sperm and egg to develop outside the uterus, which will affect the normal pregnancy.

Irregular menstruation: The presence of gray-black blood clots during menstruation is one of the symptoms of irregular menstruation. Some are due to overwork, mental depression, dietary disorders, excessive anger, and some may be due to an unhealthy lifestyle, causing endocrine imbalance. If endocrine imbalance is not corrected in time, it will immediately cause menstrual irregularities.
