Can I sleep on my back when I am three months pregnant?

Many pregnant women are very careful when falling asleep during pregnancy, for fear of crushing the baby. Even in the early stages of pregnancy, you should start to consult a doctor about what sleeping position is good for the baby. During pregnancy, lying on your left side can prevent harm to the fetus. Is it okay to sleep on your back during pregnancy?

Three months of pregnancy means about 12 weeks. In fact, 12 weeks is not a big number, the fetus has not yet left the pelvis or is about to reach the pelvis. At this week, any posture is fine, lying on your side, lying flat, or lying on your back. You can lie in any comfortable position.

The posture that you should pay attention to is after 28 weeks, especially for a single fetus, because the uterus is above the navel after 28 weeks. If you sleep on your back, the large blood vessel behind the uterus, the inferior vena cava, will be compressed, which will affect the blood supply to the embryo. Therefore, when the pregnancy is relatively advanced at 28 weeks, it is recommended to lie on your side, on the left or right side. In fact, the so-called side-lying does not need to be completely 90 degrees, but just slightly leaning back and having a little angle will do.

For twins, the recommended side-sleeping weeks will be earlier, basically until 23 to 24 weeks to sleep on the side, because the uterine fundus of twins at 23 weeks is actually equivalent to around 28 weeks. In fact, the main purpose of the test is to prevent compression of the inferior vena cava behind the uterus, to prevent long-term compression from causing hypotension, and thus affecting the perfusion of the embryo. Therefore, after 28 weeks of pregnancy, the recommended sleeping position for a single pregnancy is side-lying.

During the third and a half months of pregnancy, you can sleep lying down, because the uterus is relatively small at this time, and the pressure on the inferior vena cava will be relatively small. Normally, after the fourth or fifth month of pregnancy, because the uterus has enlarged, it is best for pregnant women to sleep on their left side.

In this case, most of the uterus is right-rotated, so sleeping on the left side of the pregnant woman is beneficial to the venous return. When the baby is three and a half months pregnant, the fetus is too small, so no matter what sleeping posture is generally not a big impact, at this time you should pay attention to nutrition.
