Can I breastfeed while taking levonorgestrel tablets?

Levonorgestrel tablets are a strong, short-term contraceptive. The contraceptive mechanism is to significantly inhibit ovulation and prevent the implantation of fertilized eggs, and to increase the consistency of cervical mucus, allowing sperm to expand through friction resistance, thereby fully exerting a strong contraceptive effect. It should be noted that this medicine needs to be taken on an empty stomach. It is forbidden to eat within two hours before and after taking the medicine. The second tablet should be taken 12 hours after the first tablet.

Levonorgestrel tablets are used for emergency contraception in women, that is, when there is no protection or other contraceptive measures fail inadvertently. It is recommended to stop breastfeeding for at least 3 days after taking this product during breastfeeding, and the milk should be expressed regularly during this period. In addition, patients with breast cancer, male reproductive organ cancer, abnormal liver function or recent history of liver disease or jaundice, venous thrombosis, brain injury accident, hypertension, cardiovascular disease, diabetes, hyperlipidemia, depression and women over 40 years old are strictly prohibited from taking this type of medicine.
