What is the cause of vulvar skin ulceration?

Vulvar skin ulcers may be caused by vaginitis or gynecological diseases in women. When the skin is inflamed, this condition is likely to occur, which can easily lead to fever. It can be treated and relieved by medication. You need to pay more attention to the hygiene of the vaginal opening.

What is the cause of vulvar skin ulcer?

1. Vaginal ulcer is inflammation, ulceration and defect of the skin and mucous membrane of the vulva. The lesions mostly occur on the inner side of the labia minora and labia majora, followed by the vestibule mucosa and around the vaginal opening. The course of the disease can be acute or chronic. The causes are different, and the treatments are also different.

2. The vulva is close to the urethral opening and anus, and is often contaminated by leucorrhea, menstrual blood, urine, and feces. Infants and postmenopausal women have low estrogen levels and fragile vulvar skin and mucous membranes. Women of childbearing age have frequent sexual activities. Wearing tight synthetic underwear and sanitary napkins that result in poor local permeability can all lead to infection by pathogens and cause lesions. The pathogens that cause vulvar ulcers include bacteria, fungi, and viruses. Behcet syndrome may cause ulcers on the vulva, mouth, and eyes.

3. Clinical manifestations of vulvar ulcer

1. The skin and mucous membranes are ulcerated and damaged, the surrounding areas are congested and edematous, and the bottom of the ulcer may be grayish white with exudate.

2. Local itching, pain, and burning sensation may occur.

3. The inguinal lymph nodes may be swollen.

4. There may be systemic symptoms such as fever, fatigue, or manifestations of disease in other parts of the body.

5. Vulvar ulcers are often related to sexually transmitted diseases. Recurrent attacks should alert you to diabetes.

4. Diseases that may occur due to vulvar ulcers

1. Nonspecific vulvitis

No specific pathogen was found. Chronic cases are accompanied by thickening, roughness, cracking and lichenification of the vulvar skin.

2. Candidiasis

Bean curd-like leucorrhea can be seen, and yeast hyphae and spores can be found in vaginal secretions.

3. Syphilis

Accompanied by systemic skin, mucous membrane and other lesions, specific serum blood tests can confirm the diagnosis.

4. Genital herpes

Erosions or ulcers form after papules and blisters, accompanied by systemic symptoms such as pain and fever, which may recur. The pathogen is herpes simplex virus. Laboratory tests confirmed the virus.

5. Vulvar tuberculosis

It is rare and is usually accompanied by tuberculosis lesions in other parts of the body. There is no obvious inflammatory change such as redness or swelling around the ulcer. Tuberculin test and local biopsy can confirm the diagnosis.
