How many days after the due date is it necessary to induce labor?

The mood of a pregnant woman before giving birth is like handing in an exam paper. The closer it gets to the end, the more anxious she becomes. In fact, many pregnant women are fine during pregnancy, but they are really anxious as the due date is approaching. All kinds of assumptions and worries come. Counting on the due date with fingers, most pregnant women usually give birth about a week before the due date. However, there are a few expectant mothers who wait and wait until the due date has passed and still have no reaction. This is a sign of lack of concentration. Is it a maternity ban or are there other problems with the child? How long does it take for labor to be induced?

The most common topic among expectant mothers is probably "When is your due date?" This gives us an illusion that the gestational period is not a precise time point, but only the approximate time range for our pregnant women to give birth. Some people's irregular menstrual periods or the influence of other external factors may cause the calculation of the gestational period to be inaccurate. Generally speaking, it is normal for pregnant women to give birth within half a month before or after the due date. If it is almost a month earlier, it is considered a premature baby. If it is delayed for more than half a month, it should be considered a post-term pregnancy.

What should I do if the due date arrives but there are no signs of delivery ?

1. Some pregnant mothers are very anxious before giving birth, fearing that something unexpected will happen. If the due date has passed and there are no signs of delivery, they should first pay close attention to the baby's fetal movement. The fetal movement is a direct reflection of the fetal health. Once the fetal movement is less than 3 times per hour or less than 20 times within 12 hours or the fetal movement becomes weak, you need to go to the hospital for further examination immediately. The doctor will choose the most appropriate method according to your specific situation.

2. Do exercise at home. Doctors recommend: In the late pregnancy (especially after 37 weeks), if the prenatal check-up is normal (including fetal weight exceeding 2500 grams, the pregnant woman has no pregnancy complications, etc.), the expectant mother should prepare for the upcoming delivery. She can walk for about 20 minutes a day, go up and down the stairs slowly (pregnant women who are not prone to heavy breathing and abnormal uterine contractions can use this. Remember not to be too tired, go up and down the stairs!) or try sitting cross-legged, which can exercise the pelvis and facilitate natural delivery.

3. Induce labor. In the past, we thought that induction of labor was necessary only after 42 weeks of pregnancy. But in fact, if the pregnancy reaches 42 weeks, the expectant mother's embryo may have become fragile (48% of people are already at the third stage), its function is worse, and the amniotic fluid of the pregnant woman is getting less and less. At this time, the effect of induction of labor is not good. The doctor will decide based on the situation of the fetus in the uterine cavity. Now, as long as the baby has not been born after 40 weeks, induction of labor can be considered.

The full-term fetus we often refer to is a baby with a gestational age between 37 and 42 weeks. About 80% to 90% of pregnant women give birth during this period of time. Premature babies are born before 37 weeks of gestation, accounting for about 5%-10%. If you have symptoms of labor before 37 weeks of pregnancy, you should go to the hospital outpatient department to protect the fetus and increase the time the baby stays in the uterus as much as possible. Therefore, by the 37th week of pregnancy, you should be prepared for childbirth at any time, but don't be too anxious and just take things as they come. If there are no signs of labor by the 41st week of pregnancy, you should be hospitalized for observation or appropriately induced to give birth if necessary.
