Giving birth after ten months of pregnancy is supposed to be a happy thing, but women will encounter various problems during the delivery process. The mortality rate of amniotic fluid embolism is very high. During delivery, once a parturient has amniotic fluid embolism, if rescue is not timely, it will cause death. However, it has been four days since delivery, and the probability of death from amniotic fluid embolism is very small. So what is the reason for death from amniotic fluid embolism four days after delivery? Amniotic fluid embolism mostly occurs in the period before and after delivery. It is mainly caused by the flowing amniotic fluid entering the damaged small blood vessels, forming embolism in the blood vessels, and then causing allergic reactions, and even death in severe cases. Depending on the individual constitution of the pregnant woman, the time of amniotic fluid embolism may be delayed, that is, allergic reactions during pregnancy have a certain delay; however, clinically, it is rare for amniotic fluid embolism to cause death four days after delivery, and it occurs more often before and after the delivery of the fetus. Can amniotic fluid embolism lead to death? After the amniotic fluid enters the mother's body, there may be clinical manifestations of varying severity. Severe cases may even result in rapid death within an hour of onset, but mild cases may not show any clinical symptoms. According to a survey, 93% of patients with amniotic fluid embolism will experience respiratory distress, with symptoms including dyspnea, respiratory arrest, cyanosis, and hypoxia. Substances in the amniotic fluid can cause disseminated intravascular coagulation syndrome (>50% of mothers experience amniotic fluid embolism within 1 hour); that is, systemic vascular embolism and extensive coagulation leading to excessive consumption of platelets, antithrombin, etc., resulting in poor contraction of the injection needle site, wound, vagina and uterus of the mother, combined with massive bleeding, shock, left ventricular failure, systemic convulsions, renal failure, and even maternal death. If the amniotic fluid embolism has been cured and no organs have been damaged, there will be no sequelae. Effects of amniotic fluid embolism on the fetus The onset of amniotic fluid embolism is quite sudden. If the fetus has not been delivered when the disease occurs, the maternal blood pressure is too low, insufficient uterine perfusion and hypoxia may cause the fetus to have abnormal fetal heart sounds (slow heartbeat or delayed heart deceleration) due to hypoxia and suffocation, which may eventually lead to fetal death. The most critical time for a pregnant woman is when she is giving birth. Many complications may lead to the death of the fetus and the mother. Amniotic fluid embolism is a very terrifying and acute complication for both the pregnant woman and the fetus. Although there is no way to avoid it, we can take corresponding precautions and be prepared to better face amniotic fluid embolism. |
