Is artificial insemination painful?

For couples who cannot get pregnant naturally, the only way to conceive is through artificial insemination. Artificial insemination has helped many childless parents regain their confidence in being parents. When doing artificial insemination, what people are most concerned about is the pain during the process. Some people are sensitive to pain and worry that artificial insemination will be particularly painful. The following introduces whether artificial insemination will be painful.

Is artificial insemination painful?

Artificial insemination is a relatively simple operation that does not require surgery or anesthesia. Therefore, the process of artificial insemination is only slightly uncomfortable, but not painful. Most people can tolerate it, so patients do not need to worry too much. There are several methods of artificial insemination:

1. Intravaginal artificial insemination

Because this method does not require exposing the cervix, it is easier to master. The patient takes the lithotomy position, waits for the collected semen to be completely liquefied, then injects it all into the vagina, blocks the vaginal opening with a plastic plug, and lies on his back for 20 to 30 minutes.

2. Artificial conception around the cervix and in the cervix

The patient takes the lithotomy position, and the liquefied or processed semen is carefully injected 1 cm into the cervical canal. After the operation is completed, the patient lies on his back for 20 to 30 minutes.

3. Artificial conception with cervical cap

In the above-mentioned intravaginal or intracervical artificial insemination, most of the semen may overflow from the vagina, and the small amount of retained semen is mostly destroyed by the acidic environment in the vagina, and the patient needs to lie on his back for a period of time. The use of a cervical cap can overcome these disadvantages, but due to the different outer diameters of the cervix of patients, it is difficult to choose a cervical cap of appropriate size, and it is often easy to dislocate.

4. Intrauterine insemination

Intrauterine insemination is a non-physiological process. The sperm is injected into the uterine cavity along with the seminal plasma. First, sperm can quickly pass through the fallopian tube into the abdominal cavity, reducing the chance of meeting the egg.

What should I pay attention to when doing artificial insemination?

1. The sperm donor must undergo a comprehensive examination, including hepatitis B surface antigen, blood type, and exclusion of other infectious diseases. His appearance and intelligence should also be understood. After the semen of the same sperm donor has caused five pregnancies, it cannot be used again to avoid the possibility of their offspring intermarrying.

2. If the woman has systemic diseases or infectious diseases, severe reproductive organ hypoplasia or deformity, or severe cervical erosion, she cannot undergo artificial insemination.

3. Artificial insemination with sperm from a sperm donor may cause some ethical and legal issues because it is not the combination of sperm and eggs from both husband and wife. On the one hand, artificial insemination with sperm from a sperm donor solves the problem of infertility caused by male factors and can also avoid the transfer of the male's genetic material.

Artificial insemination flow chart can bring diseases to the offspring and play a role in eugenics; but on the other hand, because artificial insemination uses sperm from a "third party", it may destroy the unity of the marriage and family or the love between husband and wife and the care of their children. Therefore, please be mentally prepared before accepting it.
