Specific process of medical abortion

Medical abortion is only suitable for pregnant women within 49 days of pregnancy, because the success rate of medical abortion will be relatively lower as the pregnancy progresses. During the process of medical abortion, the woman's body will also experience great pain. At this time, women should pay attention to these changes to help the successful abortion. At the same time, after medical abortion, if there is any remnant in the uterus, you will need to go to the hospital for a uterine curettage. So what is the specific process of medical abortion?

How to perform medical abortion? The main types of medical abortion are as follows:

1. Strict screening before medication

Before taking the medicine, the doctor will ask about the medical history, conduct a full physical examination and gynecological examination, and do laboratory tests such as urine pregnancy test, vaginal cleanliness, Trichomonas and fungi, blood routine and blood type, and perform B-ultrasound examination if necessary.

2. Detailed introduction before taking the medicine

Before using medication, doctors must carefully explain to women and their families how to use the medication, its efficacy, and possible dangerous situations. Medication can only be used after obtaining the consent of the pregnant woman and her family.

3. Common dosage for medical abortion

The dosage of mifepristone tablets is 150~200 mg, which can be taken all at once or in divided doses within 3 days. On the third day, go to the hospital to add prostaglandin preparations: 1 mg of carboprostol suppository placed in the vagina or 600 micrograms of misoprostol taken orally. Pregnant women should be observed in the hospital for 6 hours after use.

4. Monitoring during abortion

Pregnant women need to be hospitalized for observation after taking the medicine. The observation should include the pregnant woman's blood pressure, pulse, and urination and defecation. The urine and feces of pregnant women must be kept in a clean bedpan and checked and recorded by professionals. The records should include whether the fetal sac has been expelled, the specific time of expulsion, and the amount of bleeding.

5. Family monitoring

After taking the medicine, the patient needs to be observed in the hospital for about 6 hours. If the fetal sac is not expelled during this period and the amount of bleeding in the lower body is not much, you can go home first and return for a follow-up visit in time according to the doctor's instructions. It should be noted that if the gestational sac is expelled when the pregnant woman is at home, the gestational sac still needs to be taken to the hospital for examination.

In addition, although medical abortion does not require surgery, women still need to rest at home for about two weeks and need to observe vaginal bleeding at any time. If excessive bleeding or other symptoms are found, they need to go to the hospital immediately.

The dangers of medical abortion

Medical abortion is not a panacea. Due to the lack of technology or improper methods of medical abortion itself, it may cause serious harm to the health of pregnant women.

1. Causes Inflammation

After medical abortion, the gestational sac will usually be expelled on the same day, but there may be incomplete expulsion of the pregnancy tissue, making it difficult for the uterine membrane to recover and causing persistent vaginal bleeding, which may last for 2 to 3 weeks, and in severe cases, may last for 1 to 2 months. Such long-term continuous blood loss is likely to lead to anemia and may also cause endometritis.

2. Low success rate

In recent years, many women have needed to go to the hospital for uterine curettage surgery because of incomplete medical abortion, which has caused gynecological inflammation. In more serious cases, the tragedy of infertility may even occur. The reason for this is that in medical abortion, the main drug used is mifepristone. However, this drug has only been around for a dozen years, so trials for its clinical use are not sufficient and detailed enough. Currently, the success rate of medical abortion is only 75%.

3. Cause infertility

The hazards caused by incomplete medical abortion also include: fallopian tube blockage, uterine and ovarian damage, etc., which can lead to infertility and cause irreparable harm to pregnant women.

4. Repeated medical abortion is harmful

(1) The first thing you need to understand is that medical abortion achieves the purpose of abortion by hindering the normal function of endocrine, so medical abortion is more or less harmful to the body;

(2) Medical abortion can also cause certain damage to the ovaries, and generally speaking, the recovery time of this damage is also relatively long.

(3) Medical abortion may cause continuous bleeding, which may cause anemia and low immunity in pregnant women, and damage their health.

(4) Medical abortion may also cause vaginal infection, and the harm to the body should not be underestimated.

Another point that needs to be emphasized is that many women may have misunderstandings about medical abortion, thinking that medical abortion is as normal as menstruation and will not cause harm to the body. Therefore, not enough attention is paid to contraceptive measures, and medical abortion is performed after pregnancy. Some people may do it 2 or 3 times a year, which causes great harm to their bodies.
