Symptoms of folliculitis on the vulva

Symptoms of folliculitis on the vulva are mainly caused by women not paying attention to the hygiene of the vulva, which can cause vulva itching and sweating. Especially in summer, women should avoid wearing non-breathable underwear to prevent the vulva from being in a humid environment for a long time. Folliculitis on the vulva can cause redness, swelling and pain on the vulva, as well as papules and suppuration, requiring women to use medication for disinfection.

Causes

Vulvar folliculitis is an inflammation caused by nonspecific purulent bacteria invading the hair follicles of the vulva. Scratching, friction, high temperature, humidity and sweating are the triggering factors of this disease.

symptom

1. Papules

The rash initially occurs at the opening of the hair follicles, with small red follicular papules ranging in size from a needle tip to a mung bean that are itchy. A small yellow-white pus head forms on the top of the papule, surrounded by an inflammatory red halo, with hair follicles running through the center. There are many papules, which are scattered and do not fuse with each other. If the inflammation gets worse, a boil may form.

2. Pain and itching

There is mild pain and obvious itching. Initially, it appears as a small inflammatory papule consistent with the hair follicles, surrounded by a red halo, which quickly turns into a pustule, with hair often running through the center. The pustules are the size of millet grains and do not fuse together. The blister wall is thin, and there is a small amount of purulent secretion after breaking. The patient will feel itching and slight pain. After a few days, it will dry and form a scab and heal without leaving any scars. Generally there are no systemic symptoms. After a few days, the pus head will burst, discharge a small amount of pus, and gradually heal. If the disease recurs and lasts for several weeks, it may turn into chronic folliculitis.

3. Redness

The skin around the hair follicles of the vulva becomes red, swollen and painful, gradually forming a cone-shaped pustule with a pubic hair protruding from its center. Pustules may be multiple, and adjacent small pustules may fuse together to form large pustules, accompanied by severe congestion, edema and pain in the vulva.

Clinical manifestations

The skin around the hair follicles of the vulva becomes red, swollen and painful, gradually forming a cone-shaped pustule with a pubic hair protruding from its center. Pustules may be multiple, and adjacent small pustules may fuse together to form large pustules, accompanied by severe congestion, edema and pain in the vulva.

examine

Routine blood examination shows that white blood cell count and neutrophil count may be elevated. The pus from the follicular pustule can be used for bacterial culture and drug sensitivity testing.

diagnosis

The diagnosis can be made based on clinical manifestations, physical signs, and the relationship of the lesions to the hair follicles. That is, superficial pustules centered on the pubic hair, with mild inflammation and shallow infiltration. Those who have recurrent symptoms should be careful to check whether they also have diabetes.

treat

1. Eliminate the cause and keep the vulva clean and dry as much as possible. Avoid irritation and squeezing.

2. In the early stage of the disease, you can use 0.02% potassium permanganate warm water sitz bath, twice a day.

3. If multiple small pustules are formed or merge into large pustules, systemic antibiotics can be used for treatment.

4. For mature pustules, the pus can be punctured and drained, rinsed with normal saline or other external disinfectant, and then antibiotic ointment, sulfonamide ointment, or 2% iodine tincture can be applied to the periphery.

5. If the pustules have not dried and scabbed 3 days after treatment, the cause should be investigated to determine whether there is concurrent Candida infection.
