Early symptoms of venous thrombosis in pregnant women

Early symptoms of venous thrombosis in pregnant women

The incidence of venous thrombosis in pregnant women is 4 to 5 times that of the normal population, so expectant mothers must understand venous thrombosis. How to judge whether you have venous thrombosis? What are the symptoms of venous thrombosis in pregnant women? Let's learn about it in detail below~

Symptoms of venous thrombosis in pregnancy

1. Body swelling

Body swelling is one of the common symptoms of lower limb venous thrombosis, accompanied by increased skin support on the affected side. Bed rest and raising the affected side may alleviate the symptoms to a certain extent. Most of the symptoms are asymmetrical swelling of the lower limbs, and more severe ones may be manifested as symmetrical swelling of the lower limbs.

2. Body pain

The symptoms are usually weakness and dull pain, which can be relieved by lying in bed or raising the affected side. There may be deep pressure pain along the course of the deep veins, and extension pain may occur when the dorsiflexion of the foot of the affected limb is performed. In addition, high body edema may compress the aorta, causing ischemic pain in the body.

3. Changes in skin color and temperature

Because of the obstruction of venous blood flow back, the skin on the affected side is often dark purple and the skin temperature rises significantly. When severe swelling occurs and the aorta is compressed, the skin may become pale, dark blue or even spotted, and the temperature may drop. At this time, emergency surgery is required, otherwise high amputation may occur.

4. Superficial varicose veins

If a pregnant woman has venous thrombosis, she should also be accompanied by the problem of varicose veins. As the saying goes, "When the main road is blocked, the traffic pressure on the side roads will naturally increase."

5. Pulmonary embolism

At this moment, you may experience shortness of breath, chest pain, hemoptysis, etc. "In the 24 to 36 hours after pulmonary embolism occurs, only 20% of patients will have clinical manifestations and symptoms, and about 80% have no symptoms or mild symptoms." But it is important to note that a small number of pulmonary embolisms will cause respiratory damage and hemodynamic changes, resulting in shortness of breath, chest pain, hemoptysis, and severe cases may even lead to death.

Causes of venous thrombosis in pregnant women

1. Hypercoagulable blood

First, during pregnancy, with the increase of estrogen, the blood of pregnant women will automatically adjust to a hypercoagulable state due to the increase of physiological coagulation factors in the body, the decrease of fibrinolysis, and the rich coagulation enzymes in the embryonic decidua and uterine myometrium. "This kind of hypercoagulable state of the blood is an essential preparation for the pregnant woman's body to prepare for childbirth. It is a physiological adjustment and is normal in most cases." However, there are also a small number of pregnant women whose "adjustments are excessive." Therefore, women at this stage have a 2 to 4 times higher risk of developing venous thrombosis than normal.

2. Venous endothelial cell damage

Secondly, during pregnancy, long-term venous hypertension and hematoma in the lower extremities can cause damage to the venous endothelial cells, cause damage to the blood vessel walls, and easily lead to venous thrombosis.

3. Increased blood flow during pregnancy

The blood flow of pregnant women during pregnancy generally increases by 20-100%, causing the venous capillaries to dilate, grow and reduce their supporting capacity, which in turn causes blood to flow slowly, leading to blood stasis and venous thrombosis.
