Prolactin test time

Prolactin test time

Prolactin is a hormone that can greatly help our body. When the secretion of prolactin is abnormal, changes will occur in all aspects of the patient's body. The prolactin test requires attention. You cannot eat greasy and high-protein foods the day before, which can easily lead to excessive greasy foods in the body. Do not eat anything 8 hours before the test. Fasting is very important, which determines the effect of the test.

Prolactin testing requires fasting.

Prolactin is a polypeptide hormone whose secretion is pulsatile and varies greatly throughout the day. It may change due to different physical conditions, such as sleep, mood, depression, tension, exercise, sexual intercourse, and after eating, which may affect its secretion state and cause a transient increase in prolactin secretion. Under stressful conditions such as diet, especially protein diet, exercise, etc., there will be changes even in the morning and evening. Therefore, prolactin testing requires fasting.

Prolactin test precautions

Before the test

1. Do not eat greasy or high-protein food and avoid drinking large amounts of alcohol the day before blood collection. The alcohol content in the blood will directly affect the test results.

2. You should fast after 8 pm the day before the physical examination to avoid affecting the detection of indicators such as fasting blood sugar the next day.

3. Relax when drawing blood to avoid blood vessel contraction due to fear, which will increase the difficulty of blood collection.

After the inspection

1. After drawing blood, apply local pressure on the needle hole for 3-5 minutes to stop bleeding. Note: Do not rub to avoid causing subcutaneous hematoma.

2. The pressing time should be sufficient. The clotting time varies from person to person, and some people need a little longer to clot. Therefore, if you stop applying pressure immediately when the surface of the skin seems to be not bleeding, the bleeding may not stop completely, and the blood may seep into the subcutaneous layer, causing bruises. Therefore, pressing for a longer time can completely stop the bleeding. If there is a tendency of bleeding, the pressing time should be prolonged.

3. If you experience symptoms of needle phobia such as dizziness, blurred vision, fatigue, etc. after blood drawing, you should lie down immediately and drink a small amount of sugar water, and then have a physical examination after the symptoms are relieved.

4. If local bruising occurs, apply a warm towel for wet compress after 24 hours to promote absorption.

Prolactin is one of the hormones secreted by the pituitary gland. Under normal circumstances, the content of prolactin in the body has a certain standard. If it exceeds this standard, it will cause hyperprolactinemia, which is harmful to women's health. It is recommended to take medicine according to the doctor's orders and pay attention to follow-up examinations.
