My aunt is late

My aunt is late

Period refers to the menstrual period of a woman, and delayed menstruation is a common phenomenon in women. Delayed menstruation may be caused by pregnancy or taking irritating drugs. Taking emergency contraceptive pills can easily stimulate the uterus and cause delayed menstruation. You need to pay more attention to your physical health and try to avoid taking medication.

What happened to my aunt being late?

Delayed menstruation, also known as "infrequent menstruation", "delayed menstruation", "overdue menstruation", etc., is a common type of menstrual disorder. The female menstrual cycle is generally 21 to 35 days, with an average of 28 days. About 7 days earlier or later is still within the normal range, and the length of the cycle varies from person to person. However, if menstruation does not occur after more than 7 days, it is considered delayed menstruation. Various factors that affect the female central nervous system-hypothalamus-pituitary-ovarian axis and uterus may lead to delayed menstruation. It can occur during an ovulatory or anovulatory menstrual cycle. If women of childbearing age find that their menstrual period is delayed by more than 10 days, pregnancy should be ruled out first.

Causes

1. Pregnancy

After the menstruation is delayed for 10 days, you can go to the hospital for a urine pregnancy test. If the result is positive, you are very likely pregnant. There are also other symptoms of pregnancy, such as chills, dizziness, fatigue, nausea, vomiting, etc.

2. Medication

Taking progestin-containing drugs, such as progesterone, emergency contraceptive pills, etc., can prolong the luteal phase and cause delayed menstruation. Newer generation gastrokinetic drugs may also cause delayed menstruation.

3. Caused by surgery

For example, uterine surgery may cause adhesions in the uterine cavity or cervix, which may prevent menstrual blood from being discharged, thereby delaying menstruation.

4. Endocrine disorders

Obesity, excessive dieting, irregular living habits, premature ovarian failure, polycystic ovary syndrome, etc. can all cause endocrine disorders in women and lead to delayed menstruation.

5. Chronic diseases

Chronic hepatitis, tuberculosis, tumors, hypothyroidism, severe anemia, vitamin E deficiency, etc. often cause delayed menstruation.

6. Mental factors

Psychological factors such as mental tension, stress, environmental changes, etc. can cause delayed menstruation.

Clinical manifestations

1. Delayed menstruation

The menstrual cycle is delayed for more than 8 to 9 days, or even occurs every 40 to 50 days. If the delay does not exceed 7 days and there are no other symptoms, it is not considered as this disease.

2. Accompanying symptoms and signs

(1) Pregnancy: If pregnancy causes delayed menstruation, it may be accompanied by symptoms such as fatigue, drowsiness, nausea, and vomiting;

(2) Symptoms and signs of various primary diseases are often present. Polycystic ovary syndrome may manifest as obesity, hirsutism, acne, and infertility; hypothyroidism is often accompanied by apathy, memory loss, slow reaction, non-pitting edema, anorexia, abdominal distension, constipation, etc.

examine

It is normal for menstruation to be delayed by about a week. If you have sexual intercourse, use condoms for contraception, and the condom does not break or leak fluid, the possibility of pregnancy is low. The self-test rate of early pregnancy test strips is also low. Close observation is recommended. If the menstruation is delayed for about 10 days, you can go to the hospital for a blood HCG test to determine whether you are pregnant.

After excluding pregnancy, necessary laboratory and auxiliary examination methods should be selected according to the specific condition: ① Ovarian function test. ②Pituitary function test. ⑤Ultrasound examination is used to check whether there are polycystic changes in the ovaries. ⑦ Magnetic resonance imaging examination of pituitary microadenoma. ③CT examination of the sella turcica to determine whether there is a pituitary adenoma.

diagnosis

1. Ask in detail about the patient's medical history, recent surgical history, and medication history.

2. Make a diagnosis based on laboratory test results. The main thing is to identify the cause and distinguish whether it is organic or functional menstrual delay.

treat

First eliminate external factors that affect menstruation and then observe for a period of time. If the symptoms still do not improve, it is recommended to go to the hospital for examination in time to identify the cause so that targeted treatment can be provided as soon as possible. Can adopt Chinese medicine conditioning and diet therapy method.
