Breast pain and swelling

Breast pain and swelling

Mothers often experience breast engorgement and breast pain during the lactation period. This is a normal physiological condition. We should understand how to deal with breast engorgement and pain, and deal with it in a timely manner when encountering this situation. When a mother's breasts are swollen, she can ask the baby to suck more and use a breast pump to drain the milk. She can also massage the breasts and apply hot compresses to relieve the swollen breasts.

1. Let the baby suck more. The symptoms of milk swelling and breast pain in postpartum mothers are actually caused by the gradual improvement of blood circulation in the breasts. The most direct and best way is to let the baby suck as much as possible. Doctors recommend starting breastfeeding half an hour after delivery, so it is clear that letting the baby suck the breast is very beneficial.

2. A breast pump helps empty the breasts. A breast pump can be used to help empty the breasts when the baby is not hungry or does not want to feed. Because the fullness of milk is the root cause of breast pain. Whether your baby is feeding or you are using a breast pump to help you express milk, make sure both breasts are empty of milk. In order to avoid milk accumulation and aggravate breast pain.

3. Apply hot compress. Hot compress can help clear the breasts and improve breast congestion and the phenomenon of breast lumps caused by it. If you feel severe breast tenderness before applying hot compress, you can express some milk first. The same goes for taking frequent hot baths.

4. Color Doppler ultrasound examination. If the above methods cannot effectively relieve the symptoms, it is recommended to do a bilateral breast ultrasound examination to see if it is caused by breast disease.
