Why do women often have headaches?

Headache is a very common disease. Many people will suffer from headache if they cannot wake up or after losing their temper. However, if the headache is not treated in time, it can cause serious damage to the brain. According to statistics, women suffer from headaches more frequently than men. So, what causes women to always suffer from headaches? There are some special physiological reasons for women.

Why do women have headaches?

1. Migraine

Among migraine patients, the prevalence rate in women is significantly higher than that in men, which has been confirmed in many migraine epidemiological surveys. The ratio of male to female is 1:4. Migraines often occur during the ovulation period or before menstruation between two menstrual cycles, and the estrogen content in women's bodies during this period is much higher than usual. Based on this, it is boldly speculated that female migraine is closely related to the neurochemical effects of estrogen. Further research has confirmed that a sharp increase in estrogen levels in the body will produce a large amount of neurochemical substances called "serogen". Serogen can effectively stimulate the brain nerves, leading to irritability and emotional excitement, thereby causing migraine.

2. Neuralgia

It mainly refers to tension headaches, functional headaches and vascular neurosis headaches. According to epidemiological survey data, 40% of them are tension headaches. Among all tension headaches, female patients account for 75%. It seems that tension headaches are more common in women than in men. From a physiological point of view, women's headaches are mostly caused by mental tension and anger. The main symptoms are persistent dull pain, pressure, and heaviness in the head. Some patients complain of a "tightening" feeling in their head. Most patients have headaches on both sides, mostly on the temporal sides, occipital area, top of the head or the entire head. The nature of the headache is dull pain, distending pain, pressure, numbness and a band-like tight feeling.

3. Headache during menstruation

Menstrual headaches, medically known as "menstrual migraines", account for about 14% of migraines in women. The characteristic of this type of migraine is that it only occurs during menstruation and does not occur at other times. Some people have studied the disease and believe that patients with menstrual migraine have lower estradiol levels, which is the main trigger of headache attacks. For example, when serum estradiol decreases, headaches may occur, and when it returns to normal, the headaches will be relieved. It turns out that the withdrawal of estradiol can cause the intracranial and extracranial blood vessels and uterine blood vessels to be sensitive to certain factors, such as 5-HT. As we all know, 5-HT plays an important role in headache attacks, so headaches occur.

But there are also opposite situations. For example, cluster headache is mainly suffered by males. The survey results show that the male-to-female ratio is 5:1, and most data show that the male-to-female ratio ranges from 5.1 to 7.2:1.

Because women have unique physiological cycles and have to bear the heavy responsibility of childbirth and raising children, and women are naturally sentimental, women's migraine should be treated with highly effective treatments that are non-addictive and have no sequelae based on their physiological and psychological characteristics.
