Is urine pregnancy test accurate?

Many people will choose to buy pregnancy test sticks to test their pregnancy when they first get pregnant. The principle of pregnancy test sticks is to test women's urine. If there is a high value in the urine, the pregnancy test stick will show two bars, which means that the woman is pregnant. However, in order to ensure the accuracy of pregnancy, you should still go to the hospital for examination. So is the pregnancy urine test accurate?

Pregnancy test method

1. Urine test. Early pregnancy test strips are currently the most commonly used and economical pregnancy test method. About 14 days after intercourse, if human chorionic gonadotropin (HCG) is detected in the urine, it can be judged as pregnancy under normal circumstances.

2. Blood test. This is the earliest and most accurate way to determine whether you are pregnant. Generally, blood tests can be performed about 10 days after intercourse, mainly because HCG first appears in the blood and then begins to appear in the urine.

3. B-ultrasound. The results of B-mode ultrasound examination are the most reliable and accurate. It can be used as early as the 5th week of pregnancy, when the menstruation is one week late. If a circular halo can be seen in the uterus on the B-type ultrasound screen during the examination, it proves that you are pregnant.

Is the hospital's urine test accurate for pregnancy?

Generally speaking, the accuracy of urine pregnancy tests in regular hospitals is still very high, which is mainly related to the hospital's medical equipment. But it should be noted that urine pregnancy tests are judged by detecting the value of human chorionic gonadotropin (HCG). This hormone is produced by the placenta and generally takes a few days after pregnancy to appear in the urine. In addition, the content will be relatively small at the beginning and it is not easy to detect. It takes about 10-14 days to become increasingly obvious. Therefore, even if the hospital's urine test has a relatively high accuracy rate, it may not be able to detect whether you are pregnant if you go for the test too early.

There are many ways to test for pregnancy at present. The above editor introduces several common and accurate methods. I hope it will be of some help. However, it should be noted that urine tests and blood tests for HCG content can only detect whether you are pregnant, but cannot determine whether it is an intrauterine pregnancy. Therefore, it is recommended to have an ultrasound examination to confirm about 6 weeks after the menstrual period.
