Prenatal

Giving birth is after 10 months of pregnancy. If you feel you have the following three symptoms, you can be admitted to the hospital.

Prepare

It is best to prepare the delivery bag in the first seven months of delivery to avoid panic caused by emergencies. There are many things that need to be prepared in the delivery bag, including materials for admission to the hospital, daily necessities for the mother, and necessities after the baby is born.

Labor pains

Labor pains are the paroxysmal pains caused by uterine contractions that push the fetus out of the uterus. Initially, the contractions occurred every 30-40 minutes. After about 5-6 hours, the contractions became every 10 minutes or so. When the pain occurs regularly every 10 minutes, it means that labor is imminent. At this time, you should contact the hospital immediately and send the woman to the hospital (women who have given birth experience pain every 15 minutes).

Water breaking

Rupture of membranes refers to the rupture of the membrane surrounding the fetus, allowing the amniotic fluid to flow out. Generally speaking, water breaking occurs after the labor process begins, but it can also occur before labor pains. Contractions will begin after your water breaks, so go to the hospital immediately.

Seeing red

The cervix opens slightly, and the fetal membrane there separates from the uterine wall, causing a small amount of bleeding, which is called bloody show. The time from spotting to the onset of labor pains varies from pregnant woman to pregnant woman, so be sure to contact the hospital if you notice bleeding (bleeding symptoms may not be spotting, but may be a sign of other dangerous conditions).

Birth Rehearsal

The expert team participating in the delivery rehearsal includes obstetricians, midwives, anesthesiologists and other professionals. Delivery process

First stage of labor - opening

The first stage of labor refers to the process from the beginning of regular contractions every 10 minutes to the full dilation of the uterine opening (10cm). It takes an average of 10-12 hours for a first-time mother, and about 4-6 hours for a mother with prior childbirth experience.

Second stage of labor - delivery

The second stage of labor refers to the process from full dilation of the uterus to the birth of the fetus. Generally speaking, it takes an average of about 2 to 3 hours for a first-time mother to give birth, and about 1 to 1.5 hours for a mother who has given birth before.

After the head, the most important part of the fetus' body, comes out, the whole body will soon follow, and then the baby will make its loud first cry in life.

Third stage of labor - late labor

The third stage of labor refers to the process from the birth of the fetus to the delivery of the placenta. It takes about 30 minutes to 1 hour to wait for the placenta to be delivered naturally. Usually the doctor pulls the umbilical cord to deliver the placenta, which takes about 5-10 minutes. Afterwards, if an episiotomy was performed, local anesthesia is administered and sutures are performed.

Abnormal bleeding sometimes occurs after the placenta is delivered, so the mother needs to spend 2 hours quietly in the delivery room after delivery. These two hours are also called the fourth stage of labor. The doctor will measure the mother's blood pressure and other conditions and observe changes in her body.

Baby to neonatal unit

After cutting the umbilical cord, the doctor measures the newborn's weight, height, head circumference, chest circumference and other physical indicators, and conducts a post-birth health check. Babies usually spend the first six hours in a neonatal incubator after being born to their mothers. (Chinese babies are generally not placed in incubators unless there are special circumstances. Instead, they are placed next to their mothers for their “first sucking” after necessary inspections and cleaning.)
