Will progesterone drop if the fetus stops

During pregnancy, progesterone plays an important role in the development of the baby. At the same time, progesterone is a substance that is only secreted from the ovaries of pregnant women. Therefore, pregnant women can check their progesterone levels when they go for prenatal check-ups, because the progesterone level can effectively reflect the health of the baby. Fetal arrest means that the baby stops growing in the mother's belly, but will progesterone decrease after fetal arrest?

Will progesterone drop immediately after pregnancy stops?

Progesterone, also known as progesterone, abbreviated as "P" in English, is also called progesterone, progesterone, progesterone, progesterone, progestin or progesterone. It is a steroid involved in female menstrual cycle, pregnancy and affects the embryos of humans and other animals. It is produced by the corpus luteum of the ovary in early pregnancy. During pregnancy, progesterone is an important hormone that supports the early growth and development of the fetus. High concentrations of progesterone have a significant calming effect on the enlarged uterus and are also very important for supporting early pregnancy.

During pregnancy, hCG stimulates the corpus luteum to produce progesterone; during weeks 7 to 9, this gradually transitions to the production of the placenta, also known as corpus luteum placental transfer; during weeks 10 to 11, the production of progesterone by the placenta increases significantly, at which time the trophoblastic cells of the placenta take over from the corpus luteum to produce progesterone and maintain the pregnancy. Progesterone test is mainly used to understand the function of the corpus luteum, whether the ovaries have ovulated, and understand the pregnancy status. So, will progesterone drop immediately after the fetus stops? Progesterone will drop after the fetus stops, and low progesterone may be the cause of the fetal stop.

Patients with a history of amenorrhea should undergo B-ultrasound examination in the early stages of pregnancy, regardless of whether they have spotting or not, to avoid missing the diagnosis of fetal growth retardation. B-ultrasound monitors embryo and fetal development. If there is no gestational sac at ≥6 weeks, or a gestational sac is present but is deformed and wrinkled, or if the gestational sac is ≥4cm but no fetal bud is seen, or if the head and arm length of the fetal bud is ≥1.5cm but there is no fetal heartbeat, it can be determined that the embryo or fetus is developing abnormally. The latter three situations can be diagnosed as fetal growth retardation. In addition, blood β-hcG measurement can also help diagnose fetal growth retardation. If blood β-hcG is <100IU/L at ≥5 weeks, or <2000IU/L at ≥6 weeks, this indicates insufficient secretion of human chorionic gonadotropin. If the value no longer rises during dynamic observation, it can be determined that the chorionic epithelium is degenerating and the embryo is abnormal.

Experts point out that low progesterone levels in women can lead to fetal arrest and miscarriage, which is very harmful. Women should pay attention to pre-pregnancy checkups. When you find that your progesterone level is low, you must first cure it and then have a baby. If you are already pregnant and then find out that your progesterone level is low, be sure to go to the hospital and let the doctor help you preserve the fetus. It is important to note that you should not use progesterone without authorization. If used improperly, it will have side effects and harm the body, which will add fuel to the fire. For this reason, you must receive treatment under the guidance of a doctor to minimize the damage. At the same time, you must choose a regular and professional hospital and not delay or aggravate the condition due to problems with the hospital.
