Women always feel hungry and want to eat

Many women feel hungry and want to eat. If this problem occurs during menstruation, it is a relatively normal phenomenon because women's energy consumption is relatively high during menstruation. Of course, feeling hungry all the time may also be caused by health problems such as excessive stress, hyperthyroidism, obesity, or hypoglycemia.

1. Menstruation

Hormonal changes during menstruation can cause women to eat too much, and they need more calories to meet the body's extra demands during this special period. This period is a state of high energy consumption, which is also the reason why they are prone to fatigue and dehydration, so they need to replenish more energy.

2. Pressure

When the body is in fight-or-flight mode, the stress hormone cortisol persuades your body to eat, even if there is no physiological need for calories. Shana Levine, a medical expert at Mount Sinai School of Medicine in New York, believes that you are not eating because you are hungry, but cortisol tells your brain that you are not full. This is why stress causes people to overeat.

3. Hyperthyroidism

If you're eating more than usual but losing weight, your thyroid may be producing too much hormone, causing your body to burn too many calories. Dr. Lofton says hormones produced by the thyroid gland speed up all functions in the body. The thyroid gland is also involved in satiety, so if you find yourself having trouble satisfying your appetite, it's possible that your thyroid is overactive, especially if your hunger pangs are accompanied by symptoms such as fatigue, low mood, brittle nails, or hair loss.

4. Obesity

Eating too much can cause weight gain, creating a vicious cycle; obesity itself can make people feel hungry. Excess fat can cause a surge in insulin levels and increase appetite accordingly. Additionally, fat cells make the body less sensitive to the satiety hormone (leptin).

5. Hypoglycemia

There are many reasons for low blood sugar, such as skipping a meal and problems with the pancreas. But the result is the same: a rumbling belly and a craving for energy. The body generates hunger as a signal to the brain that you need to eat more food so that enough blood sugar can enter the cells.
