Will the pain of having a second baby be reduced?

Most women who have had childbirth experience will know that the pain of giving birth to the first child is very great, because at this time the woman's uterus and vagina are in a state without any childbirth experience, so they have no memory function. Many people say that women do not feel as much pain when giving birth to their second child as they did to their first child because their bodies have already developed a kind of inertia. But does the pain really lessen when having a second child?

Why is the second child born faster than the first?

It may take more than ten hours for a first-time mother to give birth, but it only takes 7-8 hours for an experienced mother to do so, which shortens the labor process by half. This is because the birth canal after giving birth is relatively loose, so the fetus does not need to work hard to squeeze through the birth canal, and it does not take so much effort to open the cervix, so the baby comes out relatively easily. In addition, the mother has given birth once and knows how to cooperate with the doctor to push, so giving birth is naturally twice as easy with half the effort.

Why is having a second baby more painful?

Postpartum uterine contractions

The strong contraction of the mother's uterine muscles after delivery will cause pain, and the mother of a second child will feel it more obviously. This is because when the mother gives birth to the first child, the uterus is relatively dense, which means that the uterus is more elastic, and the contraction after delivery does not require so much force to recover to its original state. However, the uterine muscle fibers of the mother of a second child have been pulled once, just like a blown-up balloon. To recover to its original state, it requires greater strength. Therefore, the mother of a second child will feel obvious pain when the uterus contracts after delivery. Breastfeeding mothers will release oxytocin in their bodies to stimulate the uterus to contract, so many women will feel cramp-like pain. This feeling will last for a few days and usually last for 4-7 days.

Pain during uterine descent

On the first day after the mother gives birth, the uterus remains at the height of the navel and then descends one horizontal finger every day. It will return to the pelvis 10-14 days after delivery and return to its normal size after 4-6 weeks. During this process, the mother feels pain, and of course it is even more painful due to uterine contractions.

Shortened labor and increased pain

The shortened labor process for mothers of second children means that the uterine contractions are stronger. Whether it is the first or second stage of labor, the mother will reach the requirements of delivery in a short period of time, so many mothers feel that the pain is increasing and is much more painful than the first child. But fortunately, there are pros and cons. Compared with the long and painful first childbirth, such a fast and accurate delivery method also reduces the pain for the mother.

Have psychological fear

When giving birth to their first child, mothers are fearless and brave, but after experiencing severe pain, they develop an inexplicable fear of childbirth. Although several years have passed, when labor comes, the previous experience comes back to their minds. The actual pain conflicts with the psychological expectations, so it feels more painful.

Age issues

As they get older, many mothers are already older when they give birth to their second child. Their physical fitness is much worse than when they gave birth to their first child, their tolerance is relatively weak, and they cannot withstand the stress of the delivery process. It is understandable that they feel that giving birth to a second child is more painful.
