What to do if one side of the breastfeeding mother has milk but the other side does not?

The breastfeeding period is a very important period. Most of the nutrients needed for the child's physical development come from this period. The amount of milk secreted by the breasts of lactating women is not fixed. Sometimes the secretion is more, and sometimes it is less. This is a very normal thing. However, some women produce milk in one breast but not in the other. So, what should you do if one side of your breastfeeding system has milk while the other side doesn’t?

The reason for irregular alternating breastfeeding is that if you always breastfeed one side, the other side will not produce enough milk and the breast will shrink. It will return to its original size after you stop breastfeeding. Change this habit now, breastfeed alternately, massage and apply hot compress to the smaller breast more often.

Notes during breastfeeding:

1. Do not take medication casually: Although breastfeeding is a little easier than pregnancy, you cannot be negligent at all, especially when it comes to medication. Many breastfeeding mothers understand that you cannot take medication casually during breastfeeding. Affecting milk secretion is a small matter, but passing it to the baby through breast milk is a big deal, which will affect the baby's growth and development. Therefore, during breastfeeding, mothers should take medication under the guidance of a doctor.

2. Pay attention to the hygiene of breastfeeding: Before breastfeeding, be sure to wipe the nipple with a clean hot towel and then let the baby hold it in the mouth. This can ensure hygiene. After breastfeeding, you should wipe it again to make sure there is no dirt left on the nipple, and wipe the corners of the baby's mouth clean to avoid making the baby feel uncomfortable.

3. Maintain sufficient milk: During breastfeeding, you must pay attention to drinking water and do not reduce the amount of water you drink. At the same time, you should also pay attention to nutritional matching. Only with adequate nutrition can your baby have enough milk to drink.

4. Save excess milk: If the mother still has plenty of milk after the baby is full, it is recommended to use a breast pump to suck out the milk, and then refrigerate the sucked milk. This way, you can warm up the milk and feed the baby when the baby is hungry or the mother is out. If the milk is particularly abundant, you can pour it out. Be sure to clean the breast pump to avoid mastitis caused by bacteria.
