The difference between uterine neoplasms and polyps

Intrauterine neoplasms and absorption are two different diseases, and many people cannot really distinguish them. When conducting examinations in the hospital, some doctors cannot even make accurate judgments, so imaging examinations are needed. Compared with the two diseases, cervical polyps are a more serious disease. Patients should go to the hospital for treatment in time and undergo surgical removal if necessary. So, what are the differences between uterine neoplasms and polyps?

1. Canceration

Cervical polyps are also formed due to the stimulation of chronic inflammation, which causes local hyperplasia of the cervical mucosa and gradually protrudes outward. If cervical polyps are not treated, they may gradually grow larger and block the cervical opening, causing infertility. They may also cause bleeding during sexual intercourse or bloody leucorrhea. More importantly, cervical polyps have the potential to become cancerous. Therefore, once cervical polyps are found, they should be removed.

Cervical polypectomy is relatively simple and can usually be performed in an outpatient operating room. The malignant transformation rate of cervical polyps is relatively low, approximately 0.2% to 0.4%. After excision, they should be sent for pathological examination to prevent missed diagnosis.

2. Impact on pregnancy

Cervical polyps are mostly caused by long-term chronic inflammation, which causes the cervical canal mucosa to proliferate and form polyps. They are shaped like water drops, protrude from the cervical opening, are bright red in color, soft and brittle, and easily bleed when touched. One or more, usually less than 1 cm in diameter, with a slender pedicle

The roots are mostly attached to the external os of the cervix, and a few are inside the cervical canal. Due to the presence of inflammation, recurrence is common after removal.

In addition, there is a type of polyp that comes from the cervical vagina. It is hard and tough, covered with squamous epithelium, pink in appearance, and does not bleed easily when touched. Both types of polyps can occur near the cervical canal and protrude around the cervical opening, or just block the cervical opening.

It can narrow the cervical opening or deform the cervical canal, hindering the normal upward movement of sperm. In addition, when polyps are formed, irregular vaginal bleeding or bleeding after sexual intercourse is likely to occur. These changes can affect conception.

Cervical polyps are more common mucosal polyps formed by hyperplasia of the mucosal epithelium. Such polyps should be removed once discovered. This type of surgery can be performed in the gynecology clinic of a hospital, and the time should be chosen after the menstruation is over.

3. Prognosis

As mentioned earlier, cervical polyps can be divided into two types according to the location of occurrence. Polyps formed from local hyperplasia of the cervical mucosa generally have slender pedicles and are easy to remove completely. However, polyps occurring in the cervical vagina are superficial in location but have a wider base, so they are not easy to remove completely during treatment and can regenerate. In addition, since cervical polyps are a manifestation of chronic cervical inflammation, although the polyps are removed, the chronic inflammation of the cervix is not eliminated, and the pathogenic bacteria still lurk in the cervical tissue, which means that the cause of the disease still exists. Therefore, after removing cervical polyps, chronic inflammation of the cervix should also be treated to prevent recurrence of polyps.
