Groin pain after exercise

Groin pain after exercise

Before we exercise, many fitness coaches will recommend that we do a stretching preparation lasting more than ten minutes. Stretching helps to mobilize the muscles and bones in our body, avoiding unnecessary tears and ligament injuries. Many people have experienced groin pain after exercise, which affects our daily activities. So what causes groin pain after exercise?

First: Why does the groin get strained?

The groin, as the name suggests, is the junction between the abdomen and the thigh, commonly known as the thigh root. The structure of the groin is relatively complex. The anterior wall of the inguinal canal is the external oblique aponeurosis and the internal oblique muscle, the posterior wall is the transverse abdominal fascia, the upper wall is the arcuate lower edge of the internal oblique muscle and the transverse abdominal muscle, the lower wall is the inguinal ligament, the internal opening is the abdominal ring, and the external opening is the subcutaneous ring. The muscles, aponeuroses, and ligaments that are flipped and stacked to form the groin area are not a single piece of tissue, so they can easily be strained when subjected to greater force.

Second: What should I do after the injury?

When treating a strain immediately afterward, the first goal is to reduce the tone of the strained muscle and allow it to relax. The first step is to apply ice. You can use an ice pack or a towel dipped in ice water and tie it around the muscles for about 15 minutes. Ice compress can also play a role in differential diagnosis. If it is really a muscle strain, ice compress will have a significant relieving effect. If it has no effect, then you have to consider the possibility of muscle fiber tear. It is recommended not to take painkillers, otherwise you may eliminate the pain, which is a very important warning sign.

Also, during the recovery period of the groin injury, it is best not to wear loose shorts. It is recommended to wear tight shorts, which will provide some protection and support during the healing process of the injury.

Third: How to distinguish between inguinal hernia and muscle strain?

The early symptoms of inguinal hernia are mainly bloating and pain in the lower abdomen, which is relieved after rest and becomes more obvious after exercise. It is relieved in the morning and becomes more obvious in the afternoon. Sometimes the symptoms are subtle and can be easily overlooked. As the disease progresses, a lump may be felt in the groin on the painful side. This lump has an important characteristic - it disappears when lying down and appears when standing up: the lump shrinks or disappears when lying down, and protrudes outward when standing up, as cunning as a fox. Therefore, traditional Chinese medicine calls hernia "fox hernia".
