Amniocentesis is a relatively common examination method. It does not mean that all pregnant women need to do amniocentesis. Generally speaking, for older pregnant women, this kind of amniocentesis is necessary to check whether the fetus is well developed. You must be prepared for the amniocentesis. The pregnant woman must be in good health and must not have any diseases. She should take a bath in advance, etc. Let's take a look at the preparations before amniocentesis. Preparation for amniocentesis 1. Provide detailed information before surgery. If a woman has had any abnormal physical conditions before, such as illness, allergies, etc., she needs to tell her doctor this information in detail. 2. Pay attention to hygiene and take a shower the day before going to the hospital. 3. Empty your bladder about 10 minutes before surgery. 4. Inform the patient of any medical condition a few days before the operation. If you have any physical problems 3-7 days before the operation, such as a cold, skin infection, etc., you should tell your doctor the specific situation. 5. Generally, you don’t need to fast for amniocentesis, but it’s best to go in the morning, because the puncture cannot be done immediately after registration. Some examinations are needed, such as measuring body temperature, listening to fetal heart rate, B-ultrasound, etc., to determine the position of the placenta, fetal condition, amniotic fluid condition, etc. After the examination, a decision can be made whether to perform a puncture. The process of amniocentesis 1. Pregnant women should first undergo B-ultrasound to determine the location, size, development, etc. of the placenta to avoid accidental injury to the placenta. 2. The ultrasound doctor will use B-ultrasound to find a piece of amniotic fluid that is a safe distance away from the fetus and placenta to locate the puncture point. 3. Then, following the guidance of B-ultrasound, the surgeon will insert a thin, long hollow needle through the pregnant woman's abdominal wall into the amniotic fluid that surrounds the fetus. 4. First, use a syringe to draw out 2 ml of amniotic fluid, which may contain maternal cells; then draw out another 20 ml of amniotic fluid, place them in two sterile test tubes, and cover them. 5. Remove the needle, cover with sterile gauze, apply pressure for one minute, and let the pregnant woman rest in bed for 2 hours. This examination can effectively help pregnant women detect whether their children have deformities in a timely manner and improve the quality of childbirth. In addition, in addition to older pregnant women, pregnant women who are often exposed to toxic or radioactive substances also need to do this examination during pregnancy to reduce the birth rate of unhealthy children. |
