Lingual papillitis

Lingual papillitis

The breast is one of the most important parts of a woman. Nowadays, many girls pay little attention to health issues in this area, so they are prone to breast diseases. Some girls may have tongue-shaped nipples, which may be caused by lingual papillitis. However, this disease is not completely untreatable. As long as you pay attention to personal health care, the disease can be completely cured.

Tongue papillae

Lingual papillae: Nipples that form outward on the mucosa of the back of the tongue. Each papilla is centered on the connective tissue of the lamina propria and is covered with stratified squamous epithelium. Refers to the many small pink protrusions on the mucosa on the back of the tongue. According to their shapes, the lingual papillae can be divided into four types: filiform papillae, fungiform papillae, foliate papillae and circumflex papillae. Filiform papillae are the most numerous; foliate papillae have tended to degenerate; although fungiform papillae and circumflex papillae are few in number, they have taste buds on them. The nipple-like protrusions on the back of the tongue are called lingual papillae. This papilla is composed of mucous membrane and contains abundant nerve endings, which are responsible for the sense of taste. There are different types of nipples, including circumvallate nipples, filiform nipples, fungiform nipples and foliate nipples.

Between the papillae, there are small amounts, mushroom-shaped, bright red in color, with mild keratinization of the superficial epithelium, and often taste buds in the epithelium. ③Foliate papillae. Oblong, formed by several horizontal leaf-shaped mucosal folds, located on both sides of the tongue root, absent in ruminants; ④ circumferential papillae. It is relatively large, with a taste groove surrounding the papilla. The epithelium is not keratinized, and taste buds are distributed in the epithelium on one side of the groove.

Diseases related to tongue papillae and their clinical treatment

1. Lingual papillitis: Lingual papillitis can be divided into fungiform papillitis, foliate papillitis and contour papillitis. ① Fungiform papillitis: When the fungiform papilla is inflamed, the papilla becomes bright red and swollen. Since the fungiform papilla acts as a pain receptor, the patient feels a burning pain when it is inflamed, especially when eating hot or spicy food. Local irritation is the main cause of inflammation: trauma caused by sharp tooth edges, smoking, spicy or overheated food, and sensitive reactions to mouthwashes or toothpaste are all possible causes of inflammation of the tongue papillae. Eliminating local factors is the most effective way to relieve inflammation. In patients with unknown local factors, symptoms are more stubborn and may last longer. Local anesthetics provide only temporary relief, but sedatives are sometimes effective in some patients and can provide relief. ② Foliate papillitis: The nipple is significantly enlarged, sometimes several times larger than its original size, bright red in color, painful, and can affect speaking and swallowing. Patients often mistake it for a malignant tumor and seek treatment quickly. Local factors are the basic cause of foliate papillitis, such as the retention of food debris causing bacterial growth; the stimulation of the sharp edges of mandibular molars or residual roots, etc., can all lead to inflammation. In addition, foliate papillitis can also cause inflammation due to chronic pharyngitis in the vicinity and contamination from postnasal discharge. Rinse your mouth usually with a mild mouthwash.

2. Fungiform papillitis: When the fungiform papilla is inflamed, the papilla becomes bright red and swollen. Since the fungiform papilla acts as a pain receptor, the patient feels a burning pain when inflamed, especially when eating hot or spicy food.

3. Foliate papillitis: The nipple is significantly enlarged, sometimes several times larger than its original size, bright red in color, painful, and can affect speaking and swallowing. Usually rinse your mouth with a mild mouthwash and remove the sharp edges of molars or residual roots; apply anti-inflammatory drugs locally to gradually relieve inflammation. In chronic foliate papillitis that lasts for a long time, the foliate papillae may proliferate and hypertrophy. When medication cannot make them subside, surgical removal can be performed.

4. Tongue papillitis: The tongue papillae are less likely to become inflamed. When the nipple is inflamed, it becomes congested, swollen, and enlarged. Since there are more taste buds distributed in the groove of the circumvallate papilla, when the circumvallate papilla is inflamed, the taste buds are often also affected, causing the patient to lose his sense of taste. However, inflammation of the contour nipple is generally not serious. It can be restored to normal by eliminating the local factors that cause inflammation and rinsing the mouth with a mild mouthwash.

Inflammation of the lingual papillae due to various reasons. The most common causes are local irritants, such as trauma caused by sharp tooth edges, smoking, spicy or overheated food, allergic reactions to mouthwash or toothpaste, and bacterial growth caused by the retention of food debris. It can be divided into fungiform papillitis, foliate papillitis and contour papillitis. Symptoms include enlarged and congested nipples, pain, and may affect speech and swallowing functions. Contour papillitis may also cause a loss of taste. Treatment is to remove local irritants and provide local symptomatic treatment. For hypertrophic foliate papillae, surgical removal can be performed if conservative treatment is ineffective.

Inflammation of the tongue papillae caused by vitamin B2 deficiency or various reasons. There are three types of papillitis: fungal papillitis, foliate papillitis and contour papillitis. It manifests as enlarged and congested tongue papillae, and pain, which may affect speech and swallowing functions. Contour papillitis with loss of taste. Treatment: Remove local irritants, reduce inflammation and relieve pain.

Smooth tongue: also known as "mirror tongue", "smooth tongue" or "bald tongue", an abnormal tongue change. It is characterized by atrophy or even disappearance of the lingual papillae, thinning of the tongue epithelium, a smooth surface without coating that is pink, red or orange-yellow, and a reduction in the size of the tongue. During the examination, the patient should face a well-lit area and be asked to stick out his tongue naturally to fully expose the tongue. The surface color, smoothness, tongue coating, shape and movement of the tongue should be observed. This tongue pattern is seen in certain malnutrition diseases, such as malabsorption syndrome, niacin deficiency, vitamin A and riboflavin deficiency. It can also be seen in diseases such as pernicious anemia, atrophic gastritis, and gastric cancer.
