Is type 2 diabetes in women hereditary?

Is type 2 diabetes in women hereditary?

Type 2 diabetes is a relatively serious disease. This disease is related to weight and is also highly heritable. If one of the parents has type 2 diabetes, the chance of inheritance is between 1/7 and 1/13. If both parents have type 2 diabetes, the inheritance rate will increase a lot, even to 1/2. This shows that type 2 diabetes is highly heritable.

Is type 2 diabetes in women hereditary?

Type 2 diabetes is a form of diabetes that is weight-related and has a higher heritability. If one of the parents has type 2 diabetes, the chance of inheritance is between one in seven and one in thirteen; but if both parents have type 2 diabetes, the chance of inheritance increases to one in half. In fact, for these children with a family history of type 2 diabetes, danger is imminent only when they are also overweight. But nowadays, obesity among children is becoming more and more common, so the number of children suffering from type 2 diabetes is also increasing. Both types of diabetes carry the risk of heart disease, kidney disease, nerve problems and vision loss.

Precautions:

For type 2 diabetes, it is important to ensure that the child's body gets adequate exercise to prevent fat accumulation, ensure that the child's diet is nutritious, eat more fruits, vegetables, and whole grains, and give the child more vegetable oils (olive oil, etc.). These reasonable precautions will achieve greater results. Experts recommend limiting your child's intake of refined starchy foods, such as potatoes and white flour. If your child is overweight and has a family history of diabetes, it is best to have a blood test after the child is 10 years old to determine whether he has type 2 diabetes.

Is diabetes inherited from generation to generation?

Diabetes is not a genetic disease so there is no problem of inheritance from one generation to another.

However, diabetes has a family genetic tendency, and diabetes can occur in clusters in the family, so people with a family history of diabetes have a higher probability of developing diabetes than those without a family history of diabetes.

Type 1 diabetes has a certain familial clustering. Studies have reported that if parents have a history of diabetes, the incidence of type 1 diabetes in their children is 4% to 11%; the incidence of familial type 1 diabetes among siblings is 6% to 11%; and the consistency of type 1 diabetes in identical twins is less than 50%.

Type 2 diabetes is a genetic disease that often clusters in families. The U.S. Health and Nutrition Examination Survey found that approximately 35% of patients with type 2 diabetes reported that one or both of their parents had diabetes; 28% and 27% of patients without previous diabetes but who met the diagnostic criteria for diabetes and impaired glucose tolerance in an oral glucose tolerance test reported that one or both of their parents had diabetes, respectively; if the cumulative prevalence of type 2 diabetes is calculated using life tables, assuming all live to 80 years old, 38% of their first-degree relatives will develop diabetes, while only 11% of their non-diabetic first-degree relatives will have diabetes; if both parents have diabetes, the diabetes prevalence in their offspring can reach 50%, indicating that people with a family history of diabetes are the main high-risk group for developing diabetes.
