Advantages and disadvantages of cesarean section and natural birth

When a pregnant woman is about to give birth, she will be particularly excited, but she will also be confused about which method of delivery to choose. Now there are two methods of delivery: natural birth and cesarean section. When giving birth, she will do a pregnancy check in the hospital. The doctor will recommend which method of delivery to choose based on the results of the pregnancy check and the mother's own condition. When choosing a method of delivery, the health of the mother and fetus must be considered when making a decision.

Advantages of natural childbirth

1. The mother recovers quickly: Generally, women who give birth naturally can get out of bed and walk around on the same day and can be discharged from the hospital in three days. Those who have an episiotomy can be discharged in just five days.

2. The baby is healthier: The fetus is squeezed through the birth canal, and the nervous system is fully exercised, so it is relatively healthier, less likely to get sick, and develops better.

3. The cost is relatively low, usually only half the cost of a caesarean section.

4. There are fewer complications.

5. The mother’s belly can recover quickly and her figure can also be restored easily.

Advantages of Caesarean Section

1. The fetus does not need to be delivered vaginally, so it will not cause vaginal relaxation.

2. There is no need to experience severe labor pain during delivery, and the delivery time is short, generally only two hours.

3. You can choose the time of delivery yourself.

4. Relatively less bleeding, can avoid emergencies.

Disadvantages of vaginal delivery

1. Childbirth requires a long period of labor pain, and the mother must have enough patience.

2. It may cause vaginal relaxation, pelvic prolapse and other problems.

3. Production time cannot be selected or accurately predicted.

4. Other situations may occur during production, resulting in a cesarean section.

Disadvantages of Caesarean Section

1. Opening the abdomen and uterus of the mother is a trauma to her both mentally and physically.

2. Anesthesia is required and anesthesia accidents may occur.

3. Heavy bleeding may occur after the operation, and it may also cause complications in the urinary system.

4. Poor healing of the uterine incision may occur after surgery, which may easily lead to intestinal adhesion or endometriosis.

Reasons for having a cesarean section

1. The previous birth was a caesarean section

If the previous child was delivered by caesarean section, the second child should also be delivered by caesarean section, otherwise the uterus will rupture. Unless the physical condition of the mother and the fetus are particularly good.

2. The uterus has been operated on before

If the uterus has been operated on, scar tissue will be left behind, and a natural birth will increase the risk of uterine rupture, so a caesarean section is recommended.

3. The mother is not suitable for normal delivery

If the mother has preeclampsia, diabetes, heart disease or other diseases, and the doctor determines that natural birth is not suitable, a caesarean section should be chosen.

4. Low position of the placenta, placenta previa, or premature separation of the placenta from the uterus may cause heavy bleeding and require a caesarean section.

5. If there is fetal distress, severe umbilical cord around the neck, placental dysfunction, meconium aspiration or malposition of the fetus, and the condition does not improve after treatment and correction, then a caesarean section is also required.

6. If the expectant mother suffers from dwarfism, paresis, or pelvic fracture, the fetus will not be able to pass smoothly through the pelvis, so a caesarean section is required.

7. For mothers who have not given birth yet after cervical dilation for more than 20 hours, it is not recommended to continue with natural delivery. They need to switch to caesarean section to avoid the tragedy of fetal hypoxia or death due to distress.
