Pregnant woman in bed with unbearable labor pains

When approaching delivery, pregnant women are prone to abdominal cramps, which are mainly caused by uterine contractions. The degree of labor pain is different for each pregnant woman. The unbearable labor pain for pregnant women in bed is not only physical pain, but also psychological pain. If you can't bear it, you can try some measures to relieve it, which has quite good results. Let’s take a look below.

What does labor pain feel like?

The so-called labor pains are the pain caused by uterine contractions before the fetus is delivered.

1. Physical pain

If the uterus contracts regularly, it will stretch or tear the uterine muscle fibers and cause severe pain. When the fetus passes through the birth canal, it compresses the birth canal, especially causing damage and traction to the lower uterine segment and cervix.

① Pain all over the body: The uterus contracts due to the squeezing of the fetus, causing pain all over the body.

② Stretching pain: When the fetus is about to be born, the soft birth canal such as the uterine muscles, vagina and perineum are stretched, and you can feel the pain of the tissue and skin being stretched.

③Compression pain: The nerves in the pelvis are compressed by the fetal head. My waist, hips and heels hurt a lot.

2. Psychological pain

Most expectant mothers lack childbirth experience and have been exposed to all kinds of exaggerated information about childbirth pain in their lives, which makes them full of fear of childbirth, causing muscle tension, leading to intensified and prolonged uterine contractions, and aggravated pain. This will cause the mother to sweat profusely, feel nauseous and vomit, prolong the labor process, and sometimes affect the normal delivery of the baby and even cause fetal asphyxia.

How often do pregnant women experience labor pains before delivery?

When the fetus has completed its development and the pregnancy is about to end, the uterus will begin to contract, allowing the fetus to slowly descend from the cervix, pushing the fetus through continuous contraction and tension. After the cervix is two fingers dilated, the frequency and intensity of uterine contractions will increase, that is, they will become more frequent and more painful, contracting approximately every 3 to 5 minutes, and each contraction lasting 30 to 40 seconds.

When the cervix is almost fully dilated, uterine contractions may become so frequent that they occur once every 1 to 2 minutes, with each contraction lasting 45 to 60 seconds. When the fetus descends into the pelvis and presses on the pubic bone, the pain will shift from the upper abdomen to the lower abdomen. This is the pain.

When the mother starts to feel contractions, she should calculate the intervals between her contractions. The initial feeling was a slow, dull pain in my stomach and irregular pain in my waist.

Then the intervals became shorter and the pain became more intense. When you feel pain, you must be careful and record the time intervals between contractions during the pain. Gradually you will find that the contractions become regular. Every 10 minutes, the contractions will last 30 seconds longer and become increasingly intense.

How can pregnant women relieve labor pains?

1. Crazy fantasy calmness

Expectant mothers will have some beautiful plans for the arrival of the baby. They can imagine beautiful scenes and pictures in their minds to divert their attention from the pain of labor, which can effectively calm their worries and reduce the pain. It can also have a certain effect if the expectant father says sweet words to the side.

2. Moderate massage to relieve

When the mother is lying, standing or squatting waiting for delivery, the expectant father can give the expectant mother a moderate massage. Of course, expectant fathers should practice massage finger techniques in advance, which can not only relieve the discomfort of delivery at the critical moment, but also give the mother a great sense of comfort.

3. Scientific hypnosis for childbirth

Hypnobirthing means that the mother gives birth in a natural and safe state of deep relaxation, while still being fully conscious. Hypnobirthing can relieve labor pain, shorten the labor process, and reduce the occurrence of postpartum depression.

4. Warm water helps relieve stress

When the human body soaks in warm water, it feels very relaxed and comfortable. The buoyancy of water greatly reduces the actual weight borne, thereby reducing the burden of the contraction gap. This is why more and more women are giving birth in hospital birthing pools.

5. Adjust the correct posture

When expectant mothers are facing delivery, they can relieve pressure on their backs by walking back and forth, leaning on their husband or the wall, and rocking their pelvis back and forth. This is definitely more comfortable than lying flat on the bed waiting for the baby to be born.

6. Vent through sound

During the delivery process, expectant mothers can shout out loudly, which can help dissipate pain and anxiety without worrying about disturbing others. In addition, some light music and exciting music can be prepared in the delivery room to distract the mother from uterine contractions.

7. Unique acupuncture pain relief

Acupuncture pain relief is only suitable for pregnant women who have extensive acupuncture experience and have a specific preference for acupuncture. Acupuncturists should be familiar with common knowledge about childbirth and have clinical experience. Acupuncture may not completely eliminate pain, but it can reduce pain.
