How to take care of the baby after caesarean section in summer

Caesarean section should be very familiar to us in our lives. It means that when a pregnant woman is giving birth to a baby, she cannot give birth naturally due to special reasons and needs to undergo surgery to take the baby out of her belly. Many mothers feel deeply that cesarean section is extremely painful. Giving birth is really not easy. After the operation, you cannot get out of bed for several days and have to receive nutrient solution for many days. The body is very weak, especially in the summer when the weather is very hot. How should you take care of yourself during the confinement period?

The following are some things to note during the summer caesarean section confinement period:

1. Pay attention to hygiene

Protect the wound. Wounds are prone to infection in summer, so increase the frequency of dressing changes for incisions with a lot of secretions and keep the cesarean section wound dressing clean and dry. Within 2 weeks after the operation, avoid getting the abdominal incision wet, and use sponge baths to clean the whole body. You can take a shower after 2 weeks, but you must avoid taking a tub bath until the lochia is completely discharged. If the wound becomes red, swollen, hot, or painful, do not squeeze or apply any medicine on it by yourself. You should seek medical attention immediately to avoid prolonged infection of the wound.

2. The room should be ventilated

The traditional view on confinement is that new mothers are afraid of wind. Even in the summer, doors and windows must be closed tightly without leaving any gaps, and new mothers must also cover themselves tightly. In fact, there is no need to do this kind of confinement in the summer. If the weather is hot and humid, closing the doors and windows of the house will cause air to stagnate and new mothers will easily suffer from heatstroke. Windows should be opened for ventilation appropriately, but drafts should be avoided that blow directly onto the new mother and baby.

3. Appropriate exercise after surgery

You should turn over more often within 6 hours after the operation to promote early recovery of intestinal peristalsis and expel gas from the intestine as soon as possible. It will also promote the discharge of lochia, prevent lochia from accumulating in the uterine cavity, causing infection and affecting uterine reduction, and is also beneficial to the healing of uterine incision. If you have trouble turning over by yourself, ask your family for help.

4. Get out of bed and move around as early as possible

As long as physical strength allows, new mothers should get out of bed and move around the day after surgery, and gradually increase the amount of activity. This not only increases intestinal peristalsis and promotes uterine repositioning, but also avoids intestinal adhesion and thrombophlebitis. It should be noted that excessive stretching of the abdomen and lower limbs should be avoided to prevent wound rupture.

6. Keep your room clean

The new mother's room must be kept clean and hygienic to prevent the wound from being contaminated. During the confinement period, it is best to refuse visits from relatives and friends to avoid crowds making the indoor air polluted, or bringing bacteria and viruses to contaminate the wound and affect the baby's health. In addition, while paying attention to ventilation and temperature and humidity adjustment, the air conditioning filter should also be cleaned regularly to prevent cross infection.

7. Avoid greasy food after surgery

The nutritional demand after cesarean section is higher than that of mothers who give birth naturally. Therefore, many new mothers drink various pig trotter soups, bone soups, etc. after giving birth, in order to increase milk production, heal wounds and restore physical strength. However, because cesarean section requires anesthesia, laparotomy and other operations, the impact on the gastrointestinal tract is far greater than that of a natural birth. In addition, the weather is hot in the summer and new mothers have no appetite. Blindly taking supplements after surgery will increase the gastrointestinal burden and even cause diarrhea. Therefore, mothers who have undergone cesarean section must follow the doctor's diet instructions before being discharged from the hospital. They should also avoid eating too much greasy food for one week after being discharged. They should eat more nutritious and easily digestible foods, drink more soup, and only take supplements after their gastrointestinal function has recovered.
