What is the reason for abdominal pain after abortion?

Immediately after an abortion, women will experience abdominal pain, which is normal. The pain should gradually disappear after a few days, but if the pain persists, it should be taken seriously, as incomplete abortion may occur. In addition, intrauterine blood accumulation, uterine perforation or infection may cause this symptom, which is quite harmful to women.

What is the reason for abdominal pain after abortion?

(1) Incomplete abortion :

Incomplete abortion means that the chorionic and decidual tissue in the uterine cavity cannot be completely removed during surgery. After the operation, the uterus undergoes paroxysmal contractions in order to expel the remaining embryonic tissue from the uterus. At this time, the patient has paroxysmal attacks of abdominal pain, which are unbearable, and there is increased vaginal bleeding, which is bright red in color and contains large blood clots. The abdominal pain is relieved after the blood clots are discharged, and the attacks recur repeatedly.

(2) Hemorrhage in the Uterine Intrauterine Wall :

This situation usually occurs within a few hours after the operation. The patient has unbearable abdominal pain, like a knife cut, and a small amount of blood and water flows out of the vagina. Gynecological examination will reveal that the uterus is significantly enlarged, soft, and tender. The number of people who experience intrauterine hematoma is also very small. Generally speaking, it is more likely to occur in women with an overly tilted uterus and a tight cervix.

(3) Uterine perforation :

This is a serious complication of irregular abortion surgery. Perforation often causes sudden and severe abdominal pain, but a small number of people may not feel any obvious pain. The abdominal pain caused by uterine perforation is persistent, and there is a small amount of vaginal bleeding. The chance of uterine perforation is very rare, but it is more likely to occur in women whose uterus is excessively tilted, who become pregnant again within one year after a caesarean section, or who have undergone multiple abortions.

(4) Postoperative infection :

This is one of the possible complications that may occur after an abortion. Postoperative infection often occurs within two weeks after surgery. It may be caused directly by irregular surgical operations, or it may be caused by the patient's failure to pay attention to hygiene after surgery, such as having sexual intercourse, unhygienic personal clothing, etc.

After an abortion, you should pay attention to adding some high-protein, easily digestible and nutritious foods to your diet, such as eggs, fish, soybeans, milk, etc., and eat more vegetables and fruits to replenish some of the energy lost by the body. One week after the operation, you can eat black chicken, durian, pig's trotters, etc.
