Bound thyroid hormone is the storage and transport form of the hormone; free thyroid hormone is the active part of the thyroid hormone, which directly reflects the functional state of the thyroid gland and is not affected by changes in serum TBG concentration. The sum of bound and free forms is total T4 (TT4) and total T3 (TT3). The normal adult serum TT4 level is 64~154nmol/L, and TT3 is 1.2~2.9nmol/L. There are slight differences between different laboratories and test kits. The normal adult serum FT4 is 9~25pmoL/L, and FT3 is 2.1~5.4pmoL/L. The results of different methods and laboratories vary greatly.
