What is a physiological ovarian cyst?

The so-called ovarian cyst refers to a cystic tumor inside the ovary, and this cystic tumor is divided into tumorous and non-tumorous types. Physiological cysts are non-tumorous and are more common during the ovulation period of women of childbearing age. For physiological ovarian cysts, don't worry, they will generally disappear on their own. If you are worried, you can do a good job of follow-up.

Clinical manifestations

1. Increased abdominal circumference and abdominal tumors

This is the most common phenomenon among patients. The patient finds that his clothes or belt seem tight and small, and then he notices that his abdomen is enlarged, or he notices it accidentally in the morning, so he presses his abdomen and finds a tumor in his abdomen, coupled with abdominal distension and discomfort.

2. Abdominal pain

If the tumor has no complications, there is very little pain. Therefore, if patients with ovarian tumors feel abdominal pain, especially if it occurs suddenly, it is mostly due to torsion of the tumor pedicle, or occasionally due to cyst rupture, bleeding or infection. In addition, malignant cysts often cause abdominal pain and leg pain, and the pain often causes patients to seek emergency treatment.

3. Menstrual disorders

Ovarian cysts on one or even both sides usually do not cause menstrual disorders because they do not destroy all normal ovarian tissue. Patients with menstrual disorders are often accompanied by physiological ovarian cysts, such as follicular cysts.

4. Compression symptoms

Huge ovarian cysts can cause dyspnea and palpitations due to compression of the diaphragm. Ovarian cysts combined with a large amount of ascites can also cause these symptoms; but some patients with ovarian cysts have dyspnea caused by unilateral or bilateral pleural effusion, and are often combined with ascites.
