Does the HPV virus still exist after cone biopsy?

HPV virus, or human papillomavirus infection, is divided into two types: high risk and low risk. Low risk is a sexually transmitted disease, while high risk is not contagious but may cause women to develop cervical cancer. Because more than 90% of cervical cancer in women is caused by high-risk HPV virus, many doctors recommend cone biopsy for HPV patients with CIN3 grade. After having a cone biopsy, many women want to know: Will HPV infection continue after cervical cone biopsy?

There are many types of HPV viruses, such as high-risk 53, high-risk 52, high-risk 16, etc. These types are all high-risk types and can easily cause cervical lesions. Secondly, high-risk HPV infection is generally asymptomatic and can only be detected through hepatitis B testing. Cone biopsy is generally suitable for women with CIN2 and CIN3 grade lesions. If it is CIN1 grade lesions, then cone biopsy is not necessary. CIN2 and CIN3 are the precursors of cervical cancer, so cone biopsy can immediately remove the cervix to reduce the risk of cervical cancer.

After the cone biopsy, it does not mean that the HPV virus is gone. Because the HPV virus does not exist in the cervix, it is the location of the disease that occurs in the cervix. Therefore, cone biopsy only removes the HPV symptoms in the cervix. If the cone biopsy is performed and the HPV is still positive, it is also a very normal situation. At this time, further treatment is also needed, usually with medication to treat HPV virus infection. For example, many tertiary hospitals will prescribe topical interferon suppositories and oral interferon suppositories for treatment of HPV virus patients. However, whether it is interferon suppository or other drugs, most of them have a certain degree of dependence, that is, after stopping the drug, the HPV virus will recur.

Different types of HPV viruses cause different damage. In addition to the cone biopsy, interferon suppository treatment, and laser surgery mentioned in the original article, HPV virus patients must exercise more in their daily lives. When one's immune system is enhanced, the HPV virus infection components can naturally be suppressed.
