How many years can you live after chemotherapy for cervical cancer?

How long can a person live with terminal cervical cancer? Cervical cancer is the third most common malignant tumor among women worldwide, after breast cancer and colorectal cancer, and the second most common malignant tumor after breast cancer in developed countries. How long can a person with advanced cervical cancer live?

1. How long can a person with terminal cervical cancer live?

Factors that affect the survival of cervical cancer include: age of onset, histological type, installment, presence of cancer metastasis, depth and extent of tumor invasion, and original treatment method. Generally speaking, the prognosis of early-stage cervical cancer is very good, with an overall 5-year survival rate of 90%. After 5 years, if the lifestyle habits are appropriate, most cases are unlikely to relapse. However, the 5-year survival rate of terminal patients is less than 10%. In terms of actual installment payment: the 5-year survival rate of stage I is about 85%, stage II is 60%, stage III is 30%, and stage IV is less than 10%. For cervical cancer, the sooner the installment payment, the better the prognosis. If the original treatment is appropriate, the recurrence rate will be lower. Relapse is a common phenomenon in cervical cancer and is also the root cause of death. The 2-year survival rate of cervical cancer patients who have been treated for relapse is about 15%. In other words, the hope of recovery after relapse is very slim. Therefore, cervical cancer focuses on early detection, appropriate installment payment in the early stage, and appropriate original treatment. Once an attack occurs, the prognosis is very poor. 2. Metastasis of cervical cancer

Immediate spread is the most common, with cancer invading part of the tissue and spreading to adjacent organs and tissues. It often invades the inner wall of the vagina downwards, and rarely invades the organ cavity upwards through the cervix. The cancer spreads outward to invade the tissues beside the cervix and vagina and even the pelvic wall. When the cancer is compressed or invades the urethra, it can cause urethral obstruction and hydronephrosis. In the late stage, it can spread forward or backward to invade the bladder or duodenum, causing bladder-vaginal fistula or duodenovaginal fistula.

Lymph node migration: After the cancer lesions infiltrate the local lymphatic vessels, they invade the lymphatic vessels to form tumor thrombi, which enter the local lymph nodes through the drainage method of tissue fluid and spread inside and outside the lymphatic vessels. The first-level lymph node migration group includes parametrial, paracervical, omental, internal iliac, external iliac, common iliac, and presacral lymph nodes; the second-level group includes deep inguinal lymph nodes, superficial inguinal lymph nodes, and para-aortic lymph nodes.

Migration into the blood circulation is rare, but in the late stage it can migrate to the lungs, liver or bones.

3. How to diagnose cervical cancer

Benign cervical lesions

Cervical columnar epithelial cell disorder, cervical polyps, endometriosis and cervical tuberculous ulcers, etc.;

Benign cervical tumor

Cervical submucosal uterine fibroids, cervical canal uterine fibroids, cervical papilloma, etc.;

Cervical malignancy

Primary malignant melanoma, sarcoma and lymphoma, metastatic cancer, etc.

Cervical cancer damage

1. Serious impact on physiological life: Because the uterus is located in the female abdomen, it is a hollow organ close to the bladder and duodenum. Its function is to prevent the menstrual discharge from the vaginal microorganisms and gases from entering the female uterus. It can also resist the inflammatory mediators of cervical cancer caused by the stimulation encountered during sexual life. These are all harmful manifestations of cervical cancer. 2. Diseases in multiple parts of the body: The damage of cervical cancer can directly cause lower back and abdominal pain, vaginal bleeding and foul-smelling vaginal discharge. It is the most direct manifestation. In addition, the difference in the location of the attack also causes differences in the details. Lumps will appear in the lower abdomen or pelvic wall, and the lower limbs will be edematous. Cervical cancer patients may experience symptoms such as frequent urination, urgency, inability to hold urine, painful urination, hematuria, etc. At the same time, cough, chest tightness, shortness of breath, and duodenal bleeding will also accompany them.

3. Cause fatal damage to the uterus: The uterus is the place where sperm and egg combine to grow and develop. During the treatment process, due to many reasons, cervical cancer patients sometimes have to have their uterus removed in order to save their lives.

Patients with advanced cervical cancer will develop secondary symptoms based on the scope of disease invasion. When the disease spreads to the pelvic connective tissue, pelvic wall, compressed urethra or duodenum, and lumbar vertebrae compress nerves, they often complain of frequent urination, urgency, inability to hold urine, anal prolapse, constipation, anal prolapse, swelling and pain in the lower limbs, etc. In severe cases, it can cause urethral obstruction, hydronephrosis, and ultimately lead to uremia.
