Is it painful to have a normal birth or a caesarean section? It turns out this is the case

Is it more painful to have a natural birth or a cesarean section? This problem has always troubled expectant mothers. In fact, both cesarean section and natural birth will cause pain to the mother. Because the causes of the pain are different, their pain levels cannot be compared. However, in terms of the time difference, there are differences in their pain methods.

1. What are the pain points after childbirth?

Three classic pains of caesarean section

1. Pain in the belly wound

In early September, Taiwanese actress Patty Hou successfully gave birth to a son. The pain from the caesarean section was unbearable, and she refused to allow any friends to visit her. Many women choose cesarean section to avoid the severe pain during natural childbirth, but they don’t know that cesarean section is also painful. The abdominal wounds and uterine incisions caused by surgery require a long time to recover. If they are not properly cared for, or if there is an allergy to antibiotics due to certain factors, the postpartum wounds will recover more slowly and the pain will last longer. During the long recovery period, mothers feel pain and itchiness, but cannot scratch.

2. Catheterization pain

Many mothers find it very painful to have a urinary catheter inserted, and the catheter still needs to be kept in for 24 hours after delivery. It can be easily pulled out when the mother turns over, so the catheter has to be inserted again. In particular, even after 24 hours, mothers can get out of bed to urinate on their own, but they cannot defecate and must have a urinary catheter inserted again. After going through so much trouble over and over again, the mother is bound to have a mental breakdown! In addition, the doctor will repeatedly remind the mother that after the catheter is removed, she must go to the toilet as soon as she feels the urge to urinate, otherwise it is easy to cause infection and lead to new pain.

3. Postpartum uterine contraction pain

Many mothers mistakenly believe that uterine contraction pain only occurs after a normal birth. But in fact, uterine contractions have no direct connection with the mode of delivery. As long as the baby is born, the woman's body will spontaneously contract the uterus to help stop bleeding and expel waste. Although this conditioned reflex is full of positive energy, it undoubtedly brings great pain to mothers.

Three classic pains of normal childbirth

1. Private injury pain

Undoubtedly, the pain that natural childbirth brings to a woman's private parts is unimaginable, and even using words like level 10 to describe it is obviously pale. In fact, there are now devices that allow men to experience the pain of labor. According to doctors, the pain level that most men can withstand is about level 3-5. However, every woman has to endure a Category 10 hurricane of pain when giving birth. In addition, if the fetus is too large and the fetal position is awkward, the mother's private parts are at risk of tearing, and sometimes the doctor needs to perform an episiotomy to assist in delivery. Therefore, mothers' most mysterious and vulnerable area is about to be attacked like a storm.

2. Pain during urination and defecation

Although natural childbirth does not require a urinary catheter, many mothers are afraid of the pain and force themselves not to go to the toilet because they know that it is too painful every time they go to the toilet. Of course, for health reasons, it is naturally not encouraged for postpartum women to hold their urine. However, overcoming severe pain during urination and defecation is definitely a difficult challenge for new mothers. Whoever gives birth knows!

3. Postpartum uterine contraction pain

Whether it is a caesarean section or a natural birth, mothers will inevitably experience this typical "postpartum pain" - uterine contraction pain. The pain caused by postpartum uterine contractions is very severe, and sometimes a doctor's massage or hot compress is needed to relieve some of the pain. What makes mothers cry is that painkillers are almost ineffective in treating uterine contraction pain! Therefore, every woman has to endure this severe pain for a few days after giving birth.

2. Is it painful to have a cesarean section or a normal birth?

When it comes to whether cesarean section is more painful than natural birth, the answer is that there is no comparison. Because each of them has its own way of causing pain, but if you differentiate them by time stage, there are still obvious differences between the two.
