The correct method of potassium permanganate sitz bath for episiotomy should be mastered

Many women will have an episiotomy during childbirth, which is conducive to normal delivery. Care after the episiotomy is the most important. It can be cleaned with potassium permanganate. The effect will be better if you take a potassium permanganate sitz bath. Keep the perineum clean after the episiotomy.

1. Episiotomy and potassium permanganate sitz bath

Many women will have an episiotomy during childbirth. The doctor will then recommend a potassium permanganate solution sitz bath after the operation based on the woman's specific situation. Each sitz bath should last for 5 to 10 minutes. This can reduce wound pain and edema after episiotomy, promote wound healing, help the patient's recovery, and improve the efficacy of the sitz bath.

Put a little bit of it in water and wait for the water to turn pink. It mainly depends on the amount of water. Generally, a piece of paper larger than a mung bean is enough to wash the bottom. Generally, you don't need to take a sitz bath, just rinse yourself with water. The exception is when the doctor requires an episiotomy and a potassium permanganate sitz bath.

When using potassium permanganate, you should also pay attention to the following: Since potassium permanganate releases oxygen slowly, the soaking time must be 5 minutes to kill bacteria; use cold boiled water when preparing the aqueous solution, as hot water will easily decompose it and make it ineffective; the prepared aqueous solution can usually only be stored for about 2 hours, and when the color of the solution turns brown-purple, it loses its disinfecting effect. Therefore, it is best to use it as soon as it is prepared. Potassium permanganate sitz bath, generally 7 days as a course of treatment.

Suggestion: If you have not seen any effect after 14 days of potassium permanganate bathing, it is recommended that you go to the hospital for a checkup. Keep the vulva clean and dry.

2. How to care after episiotomy

First of all, keep the vulva clean. From the second day after delivery, rinse the vulva with 10% Cleanse Yin liquid, or scrub the vulva with 10% Cleanse Yin twice a day until the stitches are removed. If you feel swelling or pain in the vulvar wound, seek medical attention immediately. Generally, you can use 95% alcohol gauze wet compress or 50% magnesium sulfate hot compress.

Secondly, keep urination and defecation unobstructed, and rinse the vulva and anus after defecation. Change sanitary pads and underwear frequently.

In addition, when sleeping or lying in bed, it is best to lie on the side without the perineal wound to reduce the chance of lochia flowing into the perineal wound.
