What are the side effects of having an IUD inserted?

For older women who have already given birth, it is no longer suitable for them to continue their pregnancy and childbirth, otherwise they will face huge risks in childbirth. Therefore, in order to prevent pregnancy, they usually choose the simplest method - IUD. Many women think that having an IUD inserted is just a minor operation and will not be very dangerous. However, there are side effects of having an IUD, as follows:

1. Bleeding

Generally speaking, the most common side effect after IUD insertion is bleeding.

Most people will experience more or less bleeding after having an IUD inserted. In addition to an increase in menstrual blood volume, there will also be spotting after menstruation and bloody vaginal discharge. Most people will gradually get better and return to normal after a period of time. The compression of the endometrium by the contraceptive ring can cause local congestion, edema, and even necrosis, forming ulcers and bleeding in the compressed area.

2. Body aches

The second most common side effect is lower extremity or lower back pain. The contraceptive ring placed in the uterus is a "foreign body" to the uterus, especially when the ring is too large or positioned low. The uterus contracts to expel this "foreign body", causing uterine contraction pain, which is clinically manifested as lower abdominal pain and back pain. The above symptoms often occur in the early stages of IUD insertion. They can be treated symptomatically with painkillers, and patients will usually adapt to the condition after a few months.

3. Irregular menstruation

After the IUD is inserted, women may experience a small amount of vaginal bleeding, or a shortened menstrual cycle, heavier menstrual flow, or longer menstrual period. This is because the endometrium is compressed by the IUD and the cells undergo inflammatory infiltration. Over time, the symptoms will disappear as the uterus adapts.

There is indeed a possibility of sequelae after IUD insertion, so this is not the simplest and safest method of contraception at all. It also has certain risks. Everyone must first be clear about this. Body aches and bleeding are the most common symptoms. I wonder if you will be surprised when you encounter these two sequelae. In addition, irregular menstruation is also a sequelae.
