How to take care of the mother in winter

There are both pros and cons to confinement in winter. It is more comfortable and warm to stay in the quilt all the time in winter, but it is easy to catch a cold in winter. Once you catch a cold, the harm to the mother is quite serious. And if you stay in the quilt all the time, there will be more bacteria in the quilt, so you should expose your clothes and quilt to the sun frequently to keep them clean. So, let’s take a look at some of the things that mothers should pay attention to during confinement in winter!

Oral hygiene cannot be neglected

Postpartum women generally eat well, and the bacteria in their mouths will multiply 5 minutes after a meal. Food residues in the mouth will ferment and rot, and mix with the bacteria, easily causing oral infections such as gingivitis and periodontitis, which will lead to loose teeth, chewing weakness and tooth loss. Therefore, you should pay more attention to oral hygiene and brush your teeth and rinse your mouth after every meal.

Note: Use warm water to brush your teeth and rinse your mouth. Use a soft toothbrush. Brush up and down along the gaps between teeth instead of left and right to protect the periodontal tissue from damage.

Wash your hair and trim your nails frequently

Dirty hair can damage the hair follicles of the scalp and make the hair fall out easily. When caring for the baby, the dirt in the hair and the dirt in the nails can contaminate the child and cause infection. Long nails can easily scratch the baby's delicate skin if you are not careful, which is not good for both the mother and the baby. So wash your hair regularly and trim your nails frequently.

Note: You should wash your hair with warm water and dry it promptly after washing; be careful not to hurt your fingers when cutting your nails.

Fresh indoor air

The mother is weak after giving birth and needs fresh air to change her weak condition and restore her health as soon as possible. After a newborn is born, it grows and develops very quickly and requires not only adequate nutrition but also fresh air. In addition, ventilation is a simple, convenient and effective method of air disinfection, which can greatly reduce the number of indoor bacteria. The room for the mother and baby should be clean, bright and well-ventilated. It is unscientific to keep the doors and windows tightly closed to "keep the baby in confinement".

Note: When ventilating, the mother and child should be moved to another room, or covered with a quilt, and avoid direct wind. Generally, ventilate for 20 to 30 minutes, once or twice a day.

The lukewarm moon

The room temperature for the mother and baby should be moderate, generally 22-24℃. Too cold can easily cause the mother and baby to catch a cold or even pneumonia. During the colder period of winter in the north before heating comes on (or winter in the south), you should also pay attention to maintaining the indoor temperature. A more convenient way to increase the humidity is to buy a humidifier. It would be even better if it also has a sterilization function. You can also put a basin of water in the room, sprinkle some water on the ground, or use a wet mop to mop the floor several times a day to increase the humidity (but in the latter two methods, be careful not to let the mother slip when getting out of bed). In order to know the indoor humidity conditions at any time, you can buy a hygrometer.

During the confinement period, mothers must ensure good and sufficient sleep. Good sleep quality means more sufficient milk. You can move around a bit after giving birth, but you can only walk a few steps beside the bed. It is not suitable to go outdoors. The windows should be opened for ventilation, but the air should not be blown directly towards the mother. If a mother is exposed to the wind, she is likely to catch a cold.
