How to judge health from leucorrhea

Some women may wonder what kind of leucorrhea is normal. Because they don’t pay attention to it in daily life, the leucorrhea that causes vaginal itching appears green. They don’t know if this is still within the normal range. In fact, healthy vaginal discharge for women should be colorless, a little sticky, and a little sour. Many abnormal leucorrhea are usually caused by genital organ diseases. If you have gynecological diseases such as vaginitis, you should cooperate with your doctor for proper treatment. So, let me tell you how to treat it.

Clear, colorless vaginal discharge

In the obstetrics and gynecology departments of major hospitals, among the women who come for consultation because of "excessive leucorrhea", about 1/10 of them have physiological increases, or normal cervical mucus and normal exfoliated vaginal epithelial cells.

Leucorrhea actually refers to vaginal discharge. Normal leucorrhea is white, paste-like or egg white-like, highly viscous, has no special smell such as fishy smell, and is in small amount, and has no impact on your life.

Under normal circumstances, the skin of the labia is rich in sebaceous glands, which can secrete sebum and moisturize the genital skin.

The greater Bartholin's glands, also known as the Bartholin's glands, can secrete a colorless, clear, slightly acidic liquid that is mainly used to maintain the moisturizing of the vestibular mucosa.

Don't think that these fluids are sterile. In fact, the fluids discharged from the vagina contain a large number of microorganisms. If you observe them under a microscope, you can even find more than ten kinds of microorganisms, most of which are anaerobic bacteria. Lactobacillus is also very common, and Candida albicans is the most common yeast. Such a variety of bacteria constitute the normal vaginal flora and maintain a normal vaginal environment.

Cervical mucus secreted by cervical glands is also an important component of physiological leucorrhea. It is alkaline, very similar to egg white, and has a certain viscosity like egg white.

Leucorrhea smells a little sour, it's important

In women of childbearing age, glycogen is present in the vaginal epithelial cells. Lactobacillus uses glucose as a matrix and produces lactic acid through its own metabolism, so the taste of leucorrhea is slightly sour. Lactobacillus and other vaginal microorganisms form a complex that inhibits the excessive reproduction of pathogenic bacteria through complex actions.

Therefore, for women, excessive vaginal douching is, to some extent, undesirable. A little sour is very important for women.

Why does the vaginal discharge change color?

Physiological leucorrhea will change with the cyclical changes of the ovaries. This cycle is mainly affected by the effects of female hormones in the body and pelvic congestion.

Under normal circumstances, leucorrhea will increase 2 to 3 days before menstruation, during ovulation, 2 to 3 days after menstruation, and during pregnancy. During ovulation, cervical secretions not only increase but also become thinner, reducing the acidity of the vagina, which helps sperm preserve vitality and pass through the vagina smoothly.

Pelvic congestion caused by various reasons can also cause hypersecretion of cervical glands and increase secretions of vaginal mucosa.

The impact of mental stress on leucorrhea is also not small. Mental stimulation can increase the secretions of the vulva, vagina and cervix, forming "psychological leucorrhea".

Look at the N manifestations of leucorrhea

Pathological leucorrhea is usually caused by inflammation of the reproductive organs. The inflammation causes the infiltration of white blood cells. A large number of white blood cells are mixed in the leucorrhea, which usually appears purulent. Pathological leucorrhea caused by different pathogens also has certain characteristics.

Bacterial vaginosis

Bacterial vaginosis is the main cause of pathological leucorrhea in women, accounting for about 50% of the increase in leucorrhea caused by vaginal inflammation. When the acidic environment of the vagina changes and the number of normally existing lactobacilli decreases or disappears, anaerobic bacteria multiply in large numbers, causing symptoms.

The vaginal discharge from bacterial vaginosis has a distinctive fishy odor, which is worse after sex. The colors are mainly grayish white or grayish yellow.

Trichomonas vaginitis

If the leucorrhea is yellow or yellow-green, thin, foamy and purulent, and is accompanied by unbearable itching of the vulva and vagina, the possibility of Trichomonas vaginitis is very high. Trichomonas vaginitis is transmitted through contact, and sexual contact is one of the most important routes of infection. Vaginal secretion testing can confirm the diagnosis.

Fungal vaginitis

Once the not-so-excessive leucorrhea appears in the form of a thick white paste or curd, and a white film can be found at the outer opening of the vagina, and a rough red eroded surface can be seen after wiping off the white film, then you need to be careful about candidal vaginitis. Vaginal candidiasis is an inflammation of the vagina usually caused by Candida albicans.

Tumorous leucorrhea

Red, bloody vaginal discharge with a foul odor is often caused by a malignant tumor in the uterus. Such as the common cervical cancer.

Cooperation with the doctor is the key

Even if the diagnosis of vaginitis is confirmed by laboratory tests or bacterial culture, you don't need to worry too much. Except for malignant tumors, most vaginitis can be cured with timely treatment. But you need to be reminded that early diagnosis and timely treatment are very important.

Finally, the editor reminds that it is also important to cooperate with the doctor for physical examination. In addition to using conventional means of examination, doctors will also use some related instruments, such as vaginal speculum and other special instruments for examination, and may even collect some leucorrhea specimens for bacterial culture or pathological examination. Under the premise of a clear diagnosis, the most important treatment for pathological leucorrhea is to treat the primary disease or specific pathogens.
