What are bilateral polycystic ovaries?

John Gray wrote in "Men are from Fireballs, Women are from Venus": Men and women are like coming from different planets, speaking different languages, having different emotional needs, and thinking in different ways. This shows how much pressure women are under in the workplace today. Then all kinds of diseases came one after another. Polycystic ovary syndrome is one of them. So what exactly is polycystic ovary?

Polycystic ovary syndrome is an endocrine disorder syndrome characterized by the coexistence of reproductive dysfunction and abnormal glucose metabolism. Its important characteristics are persistent anovulation, immature ovarian follicles, excess androgen and insulin resistance, and it is the most common cause of menstrual disorders in women of childbearing age. Polycystic ovary syndrome is a disease characterized by menstrual disorders, amenorrhea, anovulation, hirsutism, obesity, infertility and bilateral enlarged ovaries with cystic changes.

Patients may have the above typical symptoms, or only some of them, but infertility due to ovulation disorders is the main clinical manifestation of polycystic ovary syndrome. The exact cause of PCOS is unknown. It is currently believed that the ovaries produce too much androgen, and the excessive production of androgen is the result of the synergistic dysfunction of multiple endocrine systems in the body.

What are the symptoms of polycystic ovary

1: About half of obese patients have this symptom, which is related to excessive androgen, increased proportion of unbound testosterone and long-term stimulation of estrogen.

2. Menstrual disorders include oligomenorrhea, secondary amenorrhea and anovulatory uterine bleeding after menarche.

3. Bilateral ovarian enlargement: The enlargement of the ovaries can be determined by direct laparoscopic visualization of the ovaries; the volume of the ovaries can be determined by direct laparoscopic visualization of the ovaries or B-ultrasound imaging.

4: Hirsutism: Abundant body hair, pubic hair showing male distribution, oily skin, and acne are caused by the accumulation of androgens.

5. Infertility: Infertility after marriage is mainly caused by menstrual disorders and anovulation.

6: Acanthosis nigricans is a condition in which symmetrical gray-brown pigmentation, such as velvety, flaky hyperkeratotic lesions, appears on the skin of the neck, back, armpits, under the breasts, and groin.

A woman has one ovary on each side, which is her reproductive organ. It is also the foundation of women’s youth. Therefore, female friends must pay attention to the maintenance of their ovaries. Even in a busy work environment, you should pay attention to rest and develop good work and rest habits. You should also participate in more physical exercises in your daily life, such as jogging, swimming, playing badminton, etc. Give yourself a happy life.
