What causes pelvic floor muscle relaxation?

Female friends often experience varying degrees of pelvic floor muscle relaxation, especially those who have given birth naturally, where the symptoms are more obvious. There are many reasons why women's pelvic floor muscles become loose. Some of them are congenital, while normal childbirth, certain diseases, etc. can cause the pelvic floor muscles to become loose. Below, the editor will introduce some common reasons that may cause pelvic floor muscle relaxation in female friends.

Generally speaking, the causes of vaginal wall relaxation are congenital structural relaxation, vaginal expansion and weakened muscle elasticity after miscarriage or childbirth, and prolapse caused by long-term chronic abdominal high pressure, such as long-term lifting of heavy objects or chronic coughing.

First point: Research by experts from medical schools at home and abroad points out that the elasticity of the vagina is determined by "elastic fibers". The main cause of vaginal relaxation is the rupture of "elastic fibers" in patients with vaginal relaxation, which causes damage to the vaginal elastic fiber network. "Elastic fibers" support the "vaginal elastic network" like a "spring" and lock in moisture like a "reservoir" dam. The elasticity, moisture and smoothness of the vagina all depend on the elastic fibers in the vaginal cells, which are the "tightening element" of women. When you become a woman, the vaginal wall is torn or often subjected to strenuous exercise. During sexual intercourse, childbirth, frequent sexual life, abortion, and medical abortion, the elastic fibers in the vagina are "stretched" again and again, and the "vaginal elastic network" breaks. The vagina is stretched and unable to shrink, resulting in "vaginal relaxation" - the vagina is unable to "hold" the penis, sexual pleasure and orgasm are lost, sexual apathy and vaginal flatulence occur, the vagina cannot lock in moisture and becomes dry, and a relaxed vagina allows bacteria and toxins to remain, causing vaginitis, cervicitis, cervical erosion, and even ascending infection to difficult-to-cure gynecological diseases such as endometritis and adnexitis.

The second point: pregnancy and childbirth. During childbirth, the fetal head enters the pelvis, compressing the muscles and fascia of the pelvic floor and the related supporting structures, and the various ligaments supporting the uterus are also greatly stretched. Especially when the labor progress is slow and not smooth, due to the long-term pressure of the fetal head, coupled with the assistance of forceps or vacuum extractors, etc., the muscles and fascia of the pelvic floor are often torn, and the related supporting ligaments become loose. For mothers who give birth naturally, because the fetus is delivered through the vagina, the diameter of the baby's head at birth is generally about 10 cm, that is, the vagina will expand to 10 cm during delivery (the normal vaginal diameter is 2.5 cm). After the squeezing of the born child, the vagina expands significantly, the muscles and hymen scars are completely destroyed, and the elasticity is significantly reduced. However, although the mother's vagina changes after vaginal delivery, there will be varying degrees of vaginal relaxation. But it does not mean that natural childbirth is the culprit for vaginal relaxation, because the mother's pelvic muscles and ligaments will be fully extended when giving birth to prepare the birth canal for the baby's birth. Therefore, even mothers who have undergone cesarean section will have loose vagina.

When female friends find that their pelvic floor muscles are loose, they can get some improvement through some exercises. Common exercises include pelvic floor exercises. Other exercises such as leg lifting can also effectively enhance the muscle contraction ability, which will also be effective in relieving the looseness of female pelvic floor muscles.
