Uterine opening diagram

Uterine opening diagram

It is not an easy thing for the baby to come out of the mother's abdomen. It needs to pass through the uterus and the birth canal before it can reach this world. If the cervix is not fully opened, it will affect the birth of the baby. The baby will be born only when the mother's cervix is fully opened. So what does the dilation of the cervix mean?

Generally, when a pregnant woman's uterine contractions become more regular, for example, once every five minutes or so, she can go to the hospital for delivery. However, the prerequisite is that in the previous examination, the doctor tells the pregnant woman that she can choose a natural birth, and then she can wait for the arrival of uterine contractions. If she cannot choose a natural birth, do not hold the baby, as it will have a certain impact on the fetus.

After the uterine contractions become regular, the doctor will conduct a digital examination. When the cervix is dilated to about three centimeters, the woman can enter the delivery room. Since the width of our human fingers is about one centimeter, fingers are used instead of centimeters. Generally, doctors will say how many fingers are dilated, which means the pregnant woman's birth canal is 3 centimeters.

Ten fingers dilated means that the pregnant woman's cervix is dilated to about ten centimeters. It does not mean putting both hands in to check. Pregnant mothers do not need to be too stressed. The feeling of dilation will be more painful. After giving birth, the feeling of pain will weaken.
