How long does it take for the lochia to be discharged after a normal birth?

Female friends will have postpartum lochia discharge for a period of time after giving birth, and the time of lochia discharge should not be too long. If the postpartum lochia is discharged continuously, it means that there is a problem with the physical and mental recovery after giving birth. So, how long does it usually take for a woman's lochia to be discharged normally?

The discharge of lochia after childbirth is a normal physiological condition after childbirth.

1. How long will the lochia last?

Within a few days after giving birth, the pregnant woman's body will excrete unnecessary substances such as residual pregnancy tissue, desquamated fragments of squamous epithelial cells in the uterus, red blood cells and white blood cells, which is called postpartum lochia. The color, amount, and consistency of postpartum lochia change over time:

Blood pressure, within 3 days after giving birth, the lochia is redder and the amount is larger.

Within one week after giving birth, the color of lochia turns into date red, dark brown and is thicker.

In addition, the duration of postpartum lochia may vary slightly from one week to one month after giving birth due to different personal health conditions. Generally, the color of lochia at this time is becoming lighter and lighter, appearing light yellow or milky white, and the amount is small and thin. Most people have basically discharged all the lochia by January.

2. Is it normal for a woman to have blood clots in her lochia?

It is normal for parturients to have blood clots in their lochia. Due to different delivery methods, the amount of postpartum lochia varies. For mothers who have a caesarean section, after the baby is delivered by the doctor, the doctor will clean up the residual blood clots, embryos and endometrial tissue in the uterus. Therefore, the amount of lochia discharged by mothers who have a caesarean section will be less than that of a natural birth.

Generally, postpartum lochia is accompanied by a small amount of blood and blood clots, which is considered normal. However, if you find that the amount of lochia does not decrease over time, and is always bright red with heavy bleeding and a strong odor, or even accompanied by fever, abdominal pain and other symptoms, you should pay attention to whether there is something wrong with your body and seek medical treatment as soon as possible.

Everyone's physical fitness is different. It is recommended that mothers first ask a doctor to assess their own physical condition and physical fitness, and find a suitable diet method for themselves. Don't listen to rumors to avoid causing physical stress due to incorrect food supplements.
