24-hour urine test for pregnant women

24-hour urine test for pregnant women

Having a healthy baby is what every family looks forward to most, but pregnancy is the hardest for the mother, and various examinations are inevitable. Urine test is a common test for pregnant women. Some pregnant women need to undergo a 24-hour urine test when their urine protein is too high. At this time, pregnant women can't help but worry about whether this will affect the baby's health. What makes pregnant women even more confused is how to retain urine for a 24-hour urine test? Here, the editor shares some suggestions from professional doctors.

Urinalysis specimen: When collecting urine specimens for testing, it is best to use fresh morning urine on an empty stomach to prevent the sample from deteriorating and affecting the test results. 24-hour urine specimen: A small amount of preservative (such as 2% xylene) should be used, and urine collection should start and end at the same time on both days to avoid incorrect urine measurement. Midstream urine bacterial culture sample: Urine should stay in the bladder for more than 6 hours. Do not drink water before collection. Do not take antibiotics. Clean the vulva to minimize contamination. Do not mix disinfectants into the sample to cause false positives or false negatives. Urine osmotic pressure measurement: The bladder should be emptied after 12 hours of water deprivation, and the urine in the 13th hour should be collected.

① Urine collection time: Generally speaking, urine discharged at any time can be sent for testing. However, the amount of urine excreted each time during the day is different, the amount of ingredients it contains is also different, and it is also affected by diet and physiological state, which will inevitably cause large differences in the test results. Therefore, it is better to use the first fresh urine in the morning for testing. ② Urine sample collection method: The urine sample must be discharged directly into a clean container, and care must be taken not to bring other non-urine components into the urine. Therefore, women should not collect urine during menstruation to avoid mixing it with menstrual blood. To avoid contamination, midstream urine can be sent for testing. ③ Preservation of urine specimens: Urine should be sent for testing immediately after discharge and should not be stored for more than 2 hours. If the urine sample is stored for too long, the formed elements in the urine may be destroyed or changed, affecting the test results. ④The amount of urine sample: Generally, a routine urine test or urine analysis requires 5 to 10 ml. If you want to check the urine specific gravity, it should be no less than 50 ml.

Before doing a kidney function or urine test, you should pay attention to the following:

1. Before doing kidney function and urine routine tests, you must be on an empty stomach, do not drink water, do not eat, do not take medicine, and do not drink alcohol. Take a good rest before the examination and avoid strenuous exercise.

2. Kidney function test requires three days of vegetarianism and a light diet.

3. It is best to use morning urine for kidney function test: morning urine is the first urination when you get up in the morning, and it is easier to detect abnormalities in urine.

4. When doing a routine urine test, it is best to collect midstream urine for testing and avoid contamination.

After listening to the doctor's advice, pregnant mothers also know what to do. Although the 24-hour urine test is a bit cumbersome, it is something that must be taken seriously for the health of the baby and the mother. What I want to say here is that the process of pregnancy is hard, but it is a happy thing for the baby to be born healthy. Having a healthy baby is like having the whole world and starting a life journey as brilliant as spring flowers.
