After a woman becomes pregnant, she needs to go to the hospital for regular prenatal checkups throughout the pregnancy. Different check items have different functions. The glucose tolerance test is to check whether the pregnant mother has gestational hyperglycemia. Gestational diabetes may increase the probability of various diseases such as fetal miscarriage, intrauterine language delay, malformation, macrosomia, low birth weight, etc. It is also easy to cause a variety of neonatal complications, such as total bilirubinuria, respiratory distress syndrome, etc. 1. Do you need to abstain from food for 12 hours if you have diabetes? Glucose tolerance requires fasting for at least 12 hours. It is best to eat a light diet three days before doing the diabetes screening. Reduce the intake of foods high in sugar. You should eat less the night before the glucose tolerance test, and be on an empty stomach the next morning, including drinking water, that is, you cannot eat or drink anything in this way to ensure the accuracy of the glucose tolerance test. It is best to bring a water cup with you when going to the hospital for a check-up. After arriving at the hospital, first draw blood on an empty stomach, then dissolve 70 grams of anhydrous glucose in 150 ml of water and drink it within five minutes. Blood was drawn once one hour after drinking the sugar, and again two hours after drinking the sugar. 2. The efficacy of glucose tolerance test 1. Glucose screen is a type of sugar screen and a way to check the body's blood sugar regulation function. After normal people take a certain amount of glucose, their blood sugar level will rise temporarily, stimulating the secretion of insulin and promoting the formation of glycogen for comprehensive storage. Within 2 hours, the blood sugar level returns to the fasting level, which is called the glucose tolerance state. After administering a certain amount of glucose, blood sugar and urine sugar are measured at intervals of 30 minutes, 1 hour, 2 hours, and 3 hours respectively to observe changes in blood sugar levels and the presence of urine sugar. This is called sugar screening. 2. Sugar screening is of great practical significance for the diagnosis of asymptomatic diabetes and type 2 diabetes. If diabetes has been confirmed, there is no need to do this test. Sugar screening has no practical significance for the observation of diabetic effects, but it is of certain help in the diagnosis of some patients with endocrine disorders. The test results are expressed in millimoles per liter (mmol/L) or mg/deciliter (mg/dl). |
